Anyone interested in repairing a pair of Nintendo Vs PCBs? I have two boards that only work on the P2 side and I can't figure out why the P1 side refuses to work. Tried multiple different working chipsets to no avail. If interested, pm me to discuss the repairs.

i just spent a bunch of time making up an adapter to test both sides of versus pcbs. I can repair them, send me a pm if your interested.

just for the record, i quoted $45 each + parts and return shipping.
Last time i checked, some vs chipsets were selling for that much. At any rate, not trying to defame, but how much is your free time worth to you?

VS PCB Repairs

I never said anything about the price you quoted or mentioned you in any way. I know I can get working empty boards for $25 bucks here on KLOV. I'm not looking to defame either, that's why I never mentioned you or your quote in my post.

See, that's the problem with VS board repair. They're only worth $40-50 each in working state (we're talking BLANK boards here, chipsets and their prices are not relevant), so if it takes you longer than 30min to fix one, might as well toss it. Then figure in shipping both ways and it's just not a winning scenario for either end of the deal. Neither of you are out of line, it's just not worth it.

Play with the side that works or throw 'em out I'm afraid.

Or learn to fix them yourself.

Well, being that i was the only person who responded that actually repairs pcbs, its not rocket science to figure out who you were referring to.
As far as board value- if you can find them tested working for 25 each, i'd buy them.
But, going by your numbers, if you can buy them for 25 each, and assuming you find someone who has 2 to sell, that's a grand total of 60.00 for 2 working pcbs. So, if you figure that it'll cost 20 dollars minimum to ship them to any repair facility round trip, that leaves you 40 dollars for repair cost of 2 pcbs.
So, does anyone want to repair his vs pcbs for $20 each, including parts????

BTW, Eldorado gets 85.00 wholesale to exchange a VS pcb, + shipping.

post up what is wrong and we might be able walk ya through it... seriously. It might be as simple as bad roms, dead op amp, etc etc.

Vs PCB repair

KLOVers,

Never meant for there to be so much drama regarding my original post. Was only looking to see if a cheap repair was possible on these boards instead of just throwing them away. Seemed like a waste of the pcbs to me to do so. I guess repairing them isn't something that can be done cheaply or is worthwhile for someone to spend the time on. Sorry for any ill will the post may have caused.

VS PCB Repair

Culcuhain,

Thanks for offering to help. So here's the problem...

Have two different vs PCBs that only work on the player 2 side. I have tried multiple chipsets and different daughterboards but the best I can ever get on the player 1 side is a screen with a solid color (usually blue). I changed the ICs for the ppu and cpu because I figured that maybe there was a connection problem. No changes, nothing improved. Any insight?

I also replied to your PM saying it was cheaper to buy working boards than to fix them. :)

Before the VS madness they were going for $20ish a shot. Haven't looked in awhile. But, yeah...

if you guys don't want your broken ones, i'd be happy to pay shipping for them.
What i've seen wrong with the few i've repaired was corrosion. Replace all the corroded up chips close to the battery, the corroded through traces and the sockets that are corroded, and they've worked. Not that it isn't possible to have one that doesn't work for other reasons, but that's a really good place to start.

Yeah, that is one reason I hate repairing Vs. Boards. I hate dealing with the damage from corroded batteries and a lot of VS. Boards have it. As soon as I see the green corrosion on the EPROMS or the spotty damage on the Power traces I just send the boards back. If there is no damage from the batteries, Vs. Boards are pretty easy to repair.

I'll add......I see a lot of shot IC sockets. Nintendo used single wipe sockets.....not the best.....especially, given the platform......constantly removing and inserting chips to change games......then take into account, the daughter board games. Those daughter boards have big square legs, and destroy the IC socket......just one insertion of a daughter card, leaves that IC socket suspect for a regular chip being inserted into it.

To cdjump......that was a very reasonable repair offer (in my opinion). I wouldn't have done it that cheap!;)

Absolutely! Tough to find anyone to touch a broken board for under $50.... Only exception is when the problem is known (so the repair work is well-defined).
