I'm trying to burn the SMB high-score/save kit info to the 6D/1D rom. I saved the original data, which means my burner read the rom fine but I can't for the life of me get it to burn the high-score data. I can burn the data just fine to every other 28-pin chip I've tried, but the original 2764 chip that was on the board that I erased will not accept the new data.

Are the original Nintendo chips write-protected? Am I missing something? Are they a one-time only burn type of thing?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

not sure but it might be a voltage issue with the top programmer? i could definitely be wrong, but it's only USB powered which could be causing the issue?

This is the only issue I've ever ran into using the TOP853 programmer. I've tried EVERY chip in the INTEL list and I keep getting "Write Error." When I use a 27C512 chip, it burns the High-Score data just fine, but even though the 27C512 chip is a 28-pin chip, it won't work in the board. It has to be a 2764 chip.

It's got to be something with the original 2764 chip. It's the original one from the conversion kit that was installed in the cab back in circa 1984.

I had some issues with some "new" chips tighe gave me to burn Galaxian roms to tonight (was burning the single rom mod to a M27128) but got errors (00176: (FF) ) on 2 chips in a row, decided to do some google'ing while i erased the now partially written/bad chips and found that the Delay can cause issues.

you can change it via the config tab and the drop down menu, you'll want the datasheet for the particular chip your burning to figure out what the chips delay is. I also noticed the top programmer isn't really shipped with the greatest options as you might have to do some micro to nano second conversions.

after adjusting the Delay I attempted reburning with 0 errors :D not sure if the 15minute bake in the UV eraser did it or if it was the delay modification but i'm guessing it was the delay as i blank checked both chips the first time around and they passed.

Hope this helps a little, maybe you have an update yourself?
