Vs. Kung-Fu Master - The next Vs. Grail.

I always felt it was loosely based on Bruce Lee's 'Game of Death', specially with the 3rd level boss and the final boss.

i know ive read that kung fu master was named after Bruce Lee's movie. the whole theme of climbing the tower to get to the boss..then i read the when it came to nes they dropped the master and called it kung fu...so is kung fu masters the arcade version the same as the pc-10 and nes ?

The game was called Spartan-X in Japan and that was a Jackie Chan movie. But, they did borrow elements from Game of Death but the game wasn't named after it or really based on it.

It was released in Japan as Spartan X (スパルタンX) and credited "Paragon Films Ltd., Towa Promotion", who made the movie starring Jackie Chan called Spartan X (Wheels on Meals) upon which it was based. The game contains elements of Bruce Lee's Game of Death.

BTB, Kung Fu has some of the best NES sound effects ever. The sounds of punching, kicking and the cornucopia of sounds when you complete a level and your energy and points are adding up, and you are awarded a free man WHILE they are adding up has been ingrained in my brain since '86.

I am going to agree with you. I think the NES version was one of the best arcade ports for the system ever. I was so in awe of the game when I was younger.

The game is beyond hard. I suck at it. Played the arcade version in MAME last night. Couldn't beat the first boss. Damn you guy with a stick.

That arcade flyer rocks!!!! Yes, it was based on Jackie's Spartan X movie. Which, I now need to see!!

Wicked, I think we should search in Google Japan for Vs. Spartan X.

I love the man with a stick, I love the giant, I even love the hunch back wizard guy. Mr. X is fun to fight as well. I can't stand Boomerang Boy. Hate him hate him hate him.
