vs. Ice Climber - calling all climbers!

My IC ROMS have shipped, so I will get into this competition...until August when my Vs cab goes away. Please someone find me a red tent!

Keep at it. The game takes some getting used to. As you said, the jumping is very different that what you would expect. It's not necessarily intuitive, but you can be very precise once you get the quirks down. And once you start getting those end of stage bonuses your score will jump very quickly.

I don't claim to be an authority on IC, but I find it helpful to sometimes jump facing away from the ledge I want to land on and turning around in mid air (when possible of course; sometimes it is necessary to make a running leap for different reasons). I find this technique especially helpful on the super bonus stage.
As you've probably noticed, when you are jumping forward you will miss a platform if you only land with your feet touching. I think this is what is so frustrating; seeing your little climber leap up and then fall helplessly through a ledge that his feet touched.

Just tried a bunch of the first set. I thought I was doing pretty good, but kept failing all the bonus stages. I would get to the top and jump off the side sometimes trying to get that damn bird....

I prolly would have had a much better score, but I missed a bunch of bonus stages....

Also, I didn't really get the cab just for the thread...Was just kidding about that.

Had to "test" out a set of IC chips last night before they went out. Scored over 14,000 on one level!! BUT i did get all the way up, killed about 4 birds and a successful bonus level...

Didn't you guys ever play this when you were younger? ;) I used to spend hours trying to get that bird at the top.

I wonder what my score would be if i sat down with one quarter and actually played. Hmmmm....

Get in this man!

I never really played this when I was younger, although a ice skating rink did have this vs Ice Climber cabinet. All my friends never showed up to the ice skating rink, so I played some games on this cabinet.
 
Got my chips, and played my first ever game of vs IC last night. 65,xxx. Damn, this game is hard! I need to get the jumping down. Its reminiscent of Mario Bros jumping (weird at first). Hopefully I can get some more time in with the game. Its hard, but fun as hell.
 
Since I've just started to play this game I figured I'd bump this back up to see where others are at with their scores.

I had my best game by far today: 99740

I easily beat my last best of 20XXX. I even managed to get to the second set of mountains.
