vs. Ice Climber - calling all climbers!

Man, I miss Sopranos. :)

Well, I fell 2 mountains short of my goal to clear the second round of mountains (I'm just assuming here that it is another 8 to clear the group of 24) but....I came away with my best score yet.

Don't know if I'll be able to top this anytime soon. Mountains 25-48 are brutal. B-R-U-T-A-L.

Nice score! Ice Climber is definitely a classic. I have to agree with John though. Would have made so much sense to make it dual screen. Same with Excitebike. Only the famicom disk system version has head-to-head racing. Both are still a great games. Nice to see you're improving your score. :)

Is nobody going to attempt any climbs?

I've been busy myself and haven't been able to play in a bit. I'm still wondering what lies past that second set of mountains; somebody help me find out!

Unfortunately I'm in the middle of a move and all my games are in boxes and my cabs are out of commission. It's a miserable state of affairs.
I should be up and playing again in a few weeks; hopefully won't have lost my touch. ;)

Anybody else playing this lately?

i may be getting a vs. but i think it has excitebike, although i saw a nintendo pc shipping box in the stash somewhere(warehouse stash) never played ic but if i get this vs. id like to fill it up......definnnately gotta have smb too

This thread makes me want a Vs Ice Climber PCB.

Anyone have an extra chipset they want to sell?

My best is a lousy 16,8**....... :(:(
This game is frickin hard.
The jumping is so strange compared to Mario. Damn, I suck at this game.

Here's a image of my latest acquisition from Boingoben. I got it just for this thread.

Glad the Vs. IC has found a good home. I miss it already but it's for the best. Sorry I couldn't hook you up with more Vs. stuff... as KillerKades can attest to my gameroom was a total mess when he came over and I just didn't have enough time to find anything else... it is all at the bottom of piles. But I think all I really have left was a Vs. pcb with one side dead and some flyers/paperwork. It appears I had sold more of my Vs. stuff than I realized. Anyways, enjoy the Vs. IC and Vs. RBI.

No worries, thanks for the RBI!!!

Wow. That cab is beautiful. And that marquee is giving me hot flashes *pantpantpant*

Keep at it. The game takes some getting used to. As you said, the jumping is very different that what you would expect. It's not necessarily intuitive, but you can be very precise once you get the quirks down. And once you start getting those end of stage bonuses your score will jump very quickly.

I don't claim to be an authority on IC, but I find it helpful to sometimes jump facing away from the ledge I want to land on and turning around in mid air (when possible of course; sometimes it is necessary to make a running leap for different reasons). I find this technique especially helpful on the super bonus stage.
As you've probably noticed, when you are jumping forward you will miss a platform if you only land with your feet touching. I think this is what is so frustrating; seeing your little climber leap up and then fall helplessly through a ledge that his feet touched.

What mountains are you climbing?
