I know this isn't big news, but I'm excited that I got Vs. Excitebike up and running on my Vs. cabinet tonight. No, I didn't find the PPU sad to say. I'm just borrowing the PPU from Vs. Goonies for the time being until I can find another one.

This game is pretty cool. I really like the presentation compared to the NES version. I understand why they would leave the create-a-track feature out, but I wish they had appropriately included the head-to-head mode that is on the famicom disk system version.

But I guess either way, it's still a sweet game. Still figuring out how to speed through the tracks without crashing and overheating so much.

Short update and video up on my website. Note: I was surprised I got through the first track without crashing using one hand. =P

Awesome! Yeah, I cannot believe the removed the VS. part, but even more than that I would love to be able to save high scores and track times. I would spend a ton of cash to get a high score save kit.

Vs. Excitebike my favorite aracde game of all time. I cannot believe I have one in my basement now...just sitting over there, waiting for me.

Some important tips:

-Get as little as air as needed to jump over stuff. 80% of the time you'll want to lean foward when jumping. You'll fly faster and land more quickly.
-The first 3 tracks have lots of cool down markers - so if you know where they are, you can almost use the turbo the entire time.
-I usually play with the turbo button held down with the middle finger, then push the gas button down while in the air or on straight aways (it will over ride the effect of the turbo)
-Land flat! Every flat landing can subtract up to a half a second of your lap time.

Track 1 Record: 55:69 :)

So what about the Vs. presentation do you like better than the NES version? (I haven't played it much on Vs.) I used to play a TON of Excitebike on my NES--my friend and I had some epic races against each other. The Vs. version not being two player is just odd... didn't the designers look at the marquee and title screen? :)

Congrats on getting it up an running--the small victories in the hobby are often the sweetest.

Well, the gameplay screen is pretty much the same, but I like the animations in between.

As far as the Vs. head-to-head mode not being on there. I still don't get it. Unless the Famicom Disk System version came out after the arcade version. I don't think so though. You would think that would be a quarter maker by getting people to play against each other head-to-head.

I think the sound/animation is richer the arcade version, and I think it just feels more natural playing standing up with a joystick...

I have not played the arcade version in years. I still play the NES version about once a year. I'll play for a few days or even a week. Even though it's been forever and a day since I played the arcade I remember getting 51-52 seconds on track 1. Landing flat is good but landing on the front tire is better! Hard to do it right but if you manage you'll see what I mean. I've gotten 43.71 seconds on track 1 on the NES. This was done vs no other racers though, but still this is the way you want to race if you're going for time.

Congrats on getting this going! It is for sure one of the must-own vs. games. Fun stuff.

Crazy video. I shall strive master your technique. =)

So Hec, you're just good at any game that has a goal of getting a fast time? ;)

I was also sad I didn't get to meet you at CAX. Would have loved to see you play T&F. Hehe.

Somehow I am oddly atracted to timed games.

This was my first CAX and it wont be my last. I'm hooked! But next time I'll try to do more meet and greet instead of just games, games, games.
