Bought a Vs. Dr. Mario on eBay, the game plays fine but the audio is extremely low. I have to turn the volume up all the way to hear anything. I've tried swapping PCBs but I'm still having the same issue.

Any ideas?

1st
confirm that the speaker is not damaged (no tears in the front)

2nd
test the speaker itself in another game or just on your bench

3rd
confirm all wires are connected tight and confirm there is no gfs (aka corrosion)on any of the connectors

and in the end you probaly will end up needing to rebuild the audio amp on the monitor chassis
bob roberts sells a rebuld kit along with several others(its not a bad idea to do so even if it does not need it )

For a Vs. game without a daughterboard, the sound is generated by the 2A03 CPU and then feeds through some analog circuitry and op-amps before going off board.

I'm interested in seeing if there is any other circuitry on the daughter board that could affect this signal.

No there is not.

If it was me, I'd try replacing the sockets on the main PCB unless you have a scope.
