I was PMed by a few members asking if i could burn eproms for the Vs System. So i started looking around and i made a few phone calls. I could buy the chips in a smaller bulk buy, and program them and ship them for about 25 dollars.

I need to buy a few eproms for myself, so before i put the order in... Would there be anyone on here who would purchase the roms burned and shipped for 25? (That is for a set of 6 burned and labeled roms) I guess a set of 12 would be about 40. (Double the price - shipping) They wouldn't necessarily be matching chips, and they would be pulls, but they would be burned, labeled, and tested before they left.

Just wondering if there was a need out there!

John is a good man. He went out of his way to burn Vs. Wrecking crew for me. He packed the chips really well when shipping. Great seller! Thanks again buddy! :)

Are the chips hard to find? I have a burner here I picked up awhile back, but haven't done a thing with it!

Chip sets are the easy part. Finding the PPU's sucks.

No problem Jess! Glad I could help out. I definitely needed that 0001 PPU I bought from you for my Vs Tetris!

As long as I know there is an interest I will order the chips. I'll let everyone know when they come in so that I can start burning them!

Jow is definitely right. This is kind of more for the people who have the PPUs already but want other games. I mean, even if you don't have the right PPU you can still play the different game. But i think it is annoying with all the colors messed up....

Not to hijack the thread but can someone explain what this ppu is?

I am thinking that Vs boardsets are all the same, just an eprom change and this ppu for a different game? Is there a different ppu fpr each game?

Thanks

A PPU is really just a color chip. It is like a color filter. I am pretty sure most games will work with the wrong PPU, but the colors will be completely wrong. Some games use the same PPUs.

Here is some more information: I picked up a lot of info from John's website.

I posted the PPUs in a short list in another thread. Let me go find it.

Here it is. Post #6

I composed this list from John's site.

Some eproms use the same ppu, but there are about 7 to 10 different ones.

All information is here.

Just an update. The chips should have been shipped yesterday, and i should have them by the end of the week, at the latest very early next week!

You can usually find the 2764s for $0.50 to $1.00 each depending on pulled condition. Then you need to burn them or find someone to do it. If Lilman can provide that service for less than the going rate then that's great!

Like Jow said, it's the PPUs that makes the VS. hobby challenging and fun. :)

I'm picking up a couple of older dedicated pc's soon...can't wait to find someone 2764s' and get cracking on those games! Although I have only 2 different ppu's. I was worried the ppu's would cost like 6 bucks each.

PPUs can cost much more!! Depends on what game they come from.

I was talking about the eproms that are $0.50 - $1.00! :)

I got almost all of my PPUs by watching Ebay like a mad man and buying up the games that had the PPUs I needed. It's a labor of love.

Oh, and when you end up with multiple sets of the same game it's easy to erase the old eproms and reprogram them with a new game. I somehow ended up with way too many Hogan's Alleys and Duck Hunts. :)

Same thing here. I watched eBay and this for sale section like a hawk. They don't stay up for sale for very long.

Funny you mention it. I had about 3 hogan's alley sets myself! Only one had a bad PPU :(

I definitely won't make a ton of money this way, but i figured i could help a few guys out. I have more than a couple pms asking me to burn a few games so i figured why not!
