VOTE ! - Centipede CPO 2025 Remix of Willis

I'd like to see a custom version that looked truer to the original sideart. I don't think the Willis looks close enough. Has someone made one like that? Not the exact thing copy and pasted, but something that looks like it would have been original to the game, with a similar style of shrooms and centipede.

I think Joe Szabo did a really nice tribute artwork that aligns well with originals.
I know the package he had for cabarets was beautiful.

Those with CPO OCD, look away. :giggle:

Overlay is looking good, looking forward to seeing the final design. Want to order a couple once the design is final.

Thanks,
Mark

I got the spacing corrected and messed with blending tool a bit today, I think this will be the final product. Going to print after work today and then get laminated at my buddys
will report back with pics once printed and laminated, but here is the proof of what I am calling my final revision

opinions on player dudes?
@mhcapps txted me today and has planted a bug in my ear now.
There is a little bit of white (fangs) that it make it look decent.
and lavender, green and red are pulled from artwork so they will compliment.

What do you vote for?

My vote is white. White brings out the pinchers on the centipede. Would be awesome to see white players with black outline maybe??

with the blending in behind, black outlines were ruled out very early, the white is growing on me also.

White. Lavender isn't bad but don't like red or green as there is plenty of those colors around already.

I hate to be the one that says it, but the gradient does not play for me. I'm looking at the mushrooms, and they're cut off along the bottom edge. The original Willis used a colored area there to frame the main art. Beyond that, I think it over-modernizes the vintage Atari+Willis look to the point where it doesn't work well. I suggest scaling it back to using a solid background there, and pick a color from the Centipede bezel (like somebody else suggested earlier) that coexists well with what's already there. That's just my opinion, and everybody likes different things. I appreciate what you're doing here. Player dudes look best white.

I was thinking of this along the lines of, what would they do with current tech if they could redo it, similar to what the do with pins now. Instead of screen printing etc. and that is where the gradient came in instead of straight line and hard transitions. But, I hear what you are saying.

As to the color bar transition, I also agree on the mushrooms being out in the middle of nowhere, and was hesitant to do the blended gradient, but think (hope?) that once installed, the actual curves of the CP will help delineate the transitions a bit.

I did print a bunch of swatches and am using a blue and green that are complimentary (very close) to the blue and green from my bezel.

Will get printed, laminated and installed and post some pics to see how it turns out.

If not, I can easily go back to solid and get it closer to the original Willis.

Thanks for honest opinion!

I'd pick White dudes, no Vignette. The fading will make the overlay look like art that's from a different era than the rest of the machine.

I gotcha. Makes a little more sense now considering your vision for it. Perhaps use a linear gradient going from black at the top to the blue at the bottom. A linear approach would define that bottom edge. Great work.
