Greetings All,

I need to add a volume control to my claw machine. I went to radio shack and they sold me this:

I told the guy at the shack I just wanted to put it on the speaker wire so I could control the volume.

I have no idea how to wire it and really need some help. Where do I attach the two speaker wires? Attach just one?

Thank you.

Bill

Thanks so much. Do you think Radio Shack has one? (I can return the one I got and buy the other in the same trip).

Thanks

You'll have to check. The "shack" used to sell L-pads back in the day (mid-1980s to 1990s for sure) but I haven't had to look for one for years.

There is a good chance they do, I just can't say they do anymore. It's been 32 years since I was a store manager.

If the game has a seperate amplifier (as opposed to integrated into the game PCB), then I'd put the volume control on the low-level signal between the PCB and amp...

That is another way to do it, but if the OP doesn't know how to wire in a rheostat, he doesn't know how to break the audio input to the amp IC to put in a pot. 500k is way too high a value anyway. I'd expect it to want something on the order of 25-50k. 500k is for high-z stuff.
