I noticed a broken one for sale not too far from me at a decent price, but I've never played or even seen one. I checked my pinball price guide and saw it listed for a measly $100. I figured machines that have caught fire are worth more than that. Why is the value that low? Is is really that unfun to play?

It doesn't suck, it's a solid early SS (System 80) title with multiball and an awesome animated backglass.

And what price guide are you getting a $100 listing from?

I got the 2016 Mr. Pinball list & price guide in front of me, and they state:

1981 Gottleib Volcano --- $1,175

I have the 2015 one. Maybe a typo and it's supposed to be $1000?

Definitely a typo lol. $100, I wish! :D

Even shitty playing non-working games don't go for that these days.

I had one and really liked it the skeeball ramp shot is cool and it has multi ball and good amount of drop targets. I liked the voice on it to.

I sold my Volcano a couple years ago for $900, it's a fun game. I had it for about 5 years. I was forced to eliminate the pins in my workshop due to business expansion. Otherwise I would probably still have it.

The think about those old Gottlieb games is that if they're broken, they're sometimes a huge pain to get going again with their edge connectors, leaky batteries, ground issues, etc. I think the reason they're cheap broken is that unless it's like Black Hole, Haunted House, Spirit, or a few others, the time, money, and effort spent fixing them doesn't work out to make it worth it most of the time. I got offered a non-working "The Games" about a month ago for cheap, had to pass on it though because I couldn't see driving 3 hours round trip + 5 to 10 hours fixing it just to have a game worth $500, my time is worth more than that.
