Like the title says, What are you running under the hoods of your virtuapin units. I'm in the middle of getting everything I need to set one up. I've been reading here and on a few other forums and everyone seems to agree the faster processor and more memory the better.

So far it seems everyone is running motherboards with an i3,i5 or and i7 processor with up to 8gbs of ram. I guess i'm looking to make this project as affordable as possible.

so Far I've gotten from craigslist:

3 - 42' plasma Screens which need minor work but all screens are good
32' lcd samsung for a backglass (free from a friend)
19' dell lcd monitor for score display
old cabinet and backbox which was already gutted and headed for the trash

So the larger items have basically been free or low cost (gas, time). Now i'm looking to make the computer side of it affordable as well. I know some of you don't like them, but if you suffer from lack of space, it's a great way to enjoy a lot of tables.

Is it better to use a real DMD instead of the 19 monitor? If the answer is yes, how exactly does it get hooked up into the system?

Please show off your personal systems and share what you are running.

I'm looking for more inspiration! I've also read that winxp is the system of choice. Is this what most of you are running? Do any of you run win7 underneath Hyperpin?

Let's see those beautiful cabs!

My machine was an impromptu project that just popped out while I was playing around with future pinball. I have begun to accumulate pieces for my "real" virtual pin. I'm budgeting about $2800. I got my mini built for about $500. I'm using a pentium dual-core 2.5, windows XP, 3 GB RAM and an nvidia 210 which I had laying around. The video card is obviously the weakest link and I get only 18-25 frames on Medievil Madness. It's certainly playable, but not ideal.

This one will have much better specs (in a year or two):

That's an awesome looking minipin! I didn't think of going that route.

Upon further Inspection of my cabinet i'm not sure if it will hold a 42 inch monitor for the playfield. I might have to go with a 37".

Is that the standard playfield size for non widebody cab?

Thanks for the compliment. I'm up to 78 tables and I'm only using Future Pinball. I don't think I have the horsepower to run Visual Pinball with this setup.

A standard cab has 20.25" clearance inside. That mostly limits you to decased 37 inch LCD if you want to lay the playfield inside the cabinet. Some guys router out the sides and lay a 40" ON the cabinet and hold it in place with the side rails.

Just tonight, I bought used one of these for $270:

This unit is 20.4" wide including the bezel. Therefore, I think I have found the only 39" TV that will fit in my cabinet with only an eighth inch of material removed from each side. This TV will also not require any bezel as the side rails will be less than 1/2" from the actual play field.

There is also a 39" TCL TV that is 20.9" wide, but it is also a couple of inches thicker. You could probably fit it in a standard cabinet if it was decased.

Thanks for the info on the displays!

After a little more pondering, I think I want to get a different body for the virtuapin build, mine is an early 70s's standard and I think it's beyond saving. I thought I would be able to solve the problem with killz, but this thing just reeks of 40 year old barn neglect. I've had it outside for almost a week and it still didn't air out at all.

So I'm back on the hunt for an empty pin cab...

Anyone local have one they aren't using?

I am in Southern Wisconsin and don't play my virtual pin anymore, I can sell it to you however you want it (with components, without components, with/out plasma, etc)..

I built it in 2007, and have had my fun with it and have done a few upgrades since the original build (like adding the nanotech system to it), but now it can go to someone else who will enjoy it.

I am not looking to get rich on it, feel free to shoot me an email- [email protected]
