Virtual Pinball Progress

LOL..... Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Ill say this much, our store had the option of getting a few of those from Global VR for a nice price because we buy other things form them and we said no because it just doesnt seem right. If they had a machine similar to yours we probably would buy a couple.

How much were they charging? I may be talked into building a couple... :)

I had considered building and selling these locally. 3 things stopped me from doing it.

1.) First and most important is the two same issues as MAME. You're dealing with people that have never touched MAME "in this case VP" let alone seen VP. So how do you get them into your home "legally heh" to get them to have a hands on experience? Better question yet how do you get someone to justify spending $2500 - $3000 on something they can;t comprehend. That's truly a huge issue and is why most MAME machines sit on CL forever. IMHO.

2.) How do you sell something legally with software you don't own nor is it licensed to you or the customer. Does a person use the ole, "You're paying for the hardware but the software is free" sales pitch?

3.) Which I read wasn't the case any longer but the possibility of no further dev'ing on VP.

sell it as a "skeleton" unit with no software on it. at that point, you're simply selling them a wood cabinet with 2 or 3 tv's and a computer in it.

after you sell them the thing, i don't think there would be anything wrong with telling them where to look to get what they want...or at least steering them in the right direction.

What you're failing to see is most people have no clue how to set this stuff up and it's not really easy/straight forward to do anyway. Take time and install this on your own PC and you'll understand exactly what I'm saying here. Shillmover can attest to this I'm sure. We've had a few conversations haven't we ;)

And most people aren't going to pay that kind of money for something that's not plug and play. Not everyone is PC savvy

yeah, i've got VP and FP running on my laptop and my desktop...wasn't very difficult and there are websites to walk you through it (granted, i've never set it up in a virtual cab). that's all i'm saying...if you basically tell someone where to go to get what they want, they may make the leap of faith for the skeleton unit.

You're most likely using one monitor. FP isn;t user friendly at all. Imagine having a person that doesn't know shit from apple butter trying to get all 3 displays working. And since you personally have it installed "Maybe they've changed VP since I last used it" but normally the tables have to be resized to take full advantage of the screen and then saved to always hold that size.

I personally see this as too much for the common person to handle.

yeah....you may be right. might not be feasible.

and yes, i'm using one monitor now...i know it isn't simply plug-n-play when you go to 2+ but there's a lot of info out there on this stuff. not sure when i'm gonna make the jump to a virtual cab.

Deadly,

I totally agree. those are the real issues... every time you make a change to the video, you have to reconfigure the tables...

One thing that I totally forgot to do and that is to give Kudos wot EQDruid. This pin would not be where it is today with out his help and guideance (and his being honest with his mistakes so that I dont repeat them... :)). I owe you big, my friend...

Can you elaborate?

Is the three monitor set up THAT more difficult than the two?

Sure.

It is defnitely more work to get all three working... not hard, but more work.

Here is what needs to be done...

For Future Pinball each game needs to be loaded and the playfield and backglass need to be re-sized and re-positioned.

For Visual Pinball each game needs to be loaded and the DMD needs to be re-sized and re-positioned.

If you change the order of the monitors, or change resolutions, or boot without one of the monitors, you run the risk of having to do this again. You can, however, backup the part of the registry that controls this and recover it, but the risk is there.

I currenly have 212 tables but I have only configured about 10 of them as I dont want to send the time to configure them all until I am done. Also, I will be adding a bunch more tables too...

Hope that makes sense...

FP: what is involved in re-sizing each? re-positioning? is it drag/drop for the re-positioning?

VP: i know how to move the DMD, but other than re-sizing with the F5 button (or whichever one it is), what is involved?

FP is a pain in the ass!
need to do the following:
- Press Scoll Lock. this puts it into the "resize" mode. here there are 4 options. Resize PF, Move PF, resize Backglass, Move backglass.
- Using PgUp/PgDn you choose the option you want
- Using the numeric pad, resize/move the selected feature (4 & 6 is horizontal, 2 & 8 are vertical).
- Repeat...
- Save

That's pretty much it...

Move, resize, save the DMD. VP does a much better job...
