Hello there everyone!

I'm having a bit of an issue with my Virtua Racing cab at the moment. I bought it non-working about a year ago and have been slowly working on it bit by bit to get it up to speed.

My current problems are stemming from a lack of sound. The game seems to run fine (but the wheel has a mind of it's own), but the sound simply will not play. There's also a loud hissing noise coming from the speakers similar to when an amplifier is cranked all the way up and the audio board is quite hot to the touch, so I'm a bit stumped honestly as to what could be wrong.

What could be wrong is that your audio board is bad. Are you talking about the amplifier? A lot of those sega audio amps were the same in different cabinets, you could probably get one out of another game or off ebay.

I'm pulling a zombie on this thread as I'm finally back to working on this cab.

I went back to power it on and see what issues there were again when I ended up getting a few weird new problems. It seems the game now only wants to boot randomly, the audio issue sounds worse, and I can't seem to get a good voltage reading no matter what power supply I use. Add to that I can't seem to even feed it credits or start the game as it sporadically boots and even then only sometimes properly.

I tried using the service manual to diagnose a few issues, but the wiring diagram is very strange and seems to forgo telling me (or assumes I know) what the specific color code on the Model 1 system is.

I am at my wits end with this cabinet, while the monitor issues are quite easy to repair in the end I have absolutely no idea why the boards are refusing to work. All wiring has been checked, double checked, and triple checked with nothing loose or dangling.

I am hoping it is simply something simple I have overlooked.

I don't know if it's the amp, it seems more like the whole audio system is getting way more power than it should. Even with the volume turned as far down as is possible there is still an audible loud hiss from the speakers.
