Vintage Vault Arcade and Gameroom ~ Game Day (9/25/11)

So who are all the people at your game nights? This mostly family and friends or do you have neighbor kids, etc?

Other than personal use, the gameroom being open has been the following so far but is not limited to...

Family holidays (relatives): Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas (20-50 people)

Graduation parties (relatives and friends): (60-80 people)

Church gamedays: (30-40 people)

Birthday parties (relatives): (30-40 people)

Adult friend get togethers: (5-10 people)

My kids having sleepovers: (5-8 people)

---Typically a few adult neighbors and neighbor kids show up at birthday parties and church gamedays as they know with all the cars parked outside that there is some form of open house going on. They also know they are always welcome and not imposing.

I'm curious, how do you have your games set up to play? Quarters? Tokens? Freeplay? And how does that work when you have a bunch of people over like that?
Matt

Candy crane machine, soda machine, and all games are on freeplay. Only the small candy machines (MM's, Skittles, Runts and Sprees) have to use quarters and I just pass them out when people ask. I keep a bunch in my pocket.

Depending on manufacturer, I obviously try to set them on freeplay in the setup screens or dip switches. That covers a large majority of them. Some games that have them available I have freeplay kits installed in them (DK, Super Mario, Ms Pacman, Qbert, Punchout for example). A couple of machines have the 2nd player button hooked up to the credit switch. The last few have holes near the coin door where operators previously had security latchs. I just use the existing holes and put in a smaller push button wired to the credit switch. Most people don't have any problems finding or crediting up games that need a credit button pushed. I have absolutely drilled no new holes in any of my machines just to put in a credit button.

The pic of the little boy in front of the Simpsons machine with his hands raised in the victory position is AWESOME!!!! That is the feeling I used to get as a kid in the arcade. Congrats for making a new generation feel the same way.

I got news for you: Many still do that victory celebration, self included!

There are so many great touches to your game room but I just LOVED seeing that vintage Pepsi machine in action. Smiling faces and good times had by all.....fun stuff....:)

That Pepsi machine holds 165 cans. Those kids (and some adults) went through 130 cans that day. I'm not kidding. But yeah, that machine treats me good.

I never get tired of seeing all the happy gamers in your basement cade. That room looks larger than my entire house. Note to self....move out of CA sooner so I can score a basement.

Seriously, you've got an amazing creation there, thanks for sharing (again).
