Does anyone here have or know where I can get old core memory with the large ferrite core rings? I've been able to find some of the later model stuff with the tiny rings but I seem recall seeing some with rings that were probably 1/4" wide. It was just cool.

Something like this:

Also, what were the first games you could play on mainframes?

The last known customers for old ferrite core memory that I knew of was for old weather equipment for old light houses in northern England in the uk.

We pulled several from real old weather satellite equipment but, by contract, we had to send it to DRMO. Never did see what happened to it in the end. Also had several 'bubble memory' modules sent over as well.

I'm afraid in the end, it all ended up in a land fill.
