I've been scanning several vintage arcade industry and electronic games magazine looking for cool stuff to archive so it isn't lost to the dump. Anyway, I've found some pretty interesting stuff like this ad for "Video Player's Association", which is apparently some sort of club/league for arcade gamers back in the day. Okay, cool enough. However, what caught my attention was the charming young lad with his dork jacket showing off his "cool" badges of video game victory.

Please tell me nobody here ever wore these!? Ever joined one of these leagues BITD? Speak up "Video Commanders"!

Right on par with nerdy-ness to those....

I remember Nintendo Power offered little Player "power" pins which differed depending on how many issues you intended to subscribe to. Three different choices: Gold with three eagle wings, Silver with two wings, or bronze with one wing. The net result was always guaranteed to be the same though: virginity.

I figure it's just an easy way to let bullies know how severely to beat you up.

"Oh look, he only has one stripe, let's just give him a kidney punch!"

If they're so nerdy, why does the dude wearing them look like Billy Zabka? He could still kick your ass, badges or no badges.

How good would a "Caption Contest" be for that photo in the context of that magazine article?

He is obviously getting all of the ladies!!! Look at him talking to that chick. He is probably saying "Woman, why aren't you in the kitchen making sammiches" and she is smiling, saying "Your right, galaga is a man's game, now which way to the kitchen"

(It all in good humor, I don't really think that way about women).

That is how I think, and they should bring you a beer too! :D

Then you're missing out on some good sammiches!

OK, admit it...who used to take pictures of the tv screen with the high score, send it into Activision and get your patch in the mail?

My hand is up. I have the patches but even back then had enough sense not to advertise them!

nice scan. i think in one of the electronic games issues i have they have t-shirts that say 'vidiot' for sale. this precedes joysticks fwiw.
