VidiotArcade.com arcade video... aka BLINDED BY NEON!

Spent the long weekend hanging and wiring all the neon I've gotten from Gu. It took a little bit of time to find good places for everything but I *think* I got it nailed down now. Casey(cwales) was over on Saturday and he agreed that none of it detracts from the game play of any game and in the case of the pinballs it actually helps light up the play fields a bit.

The Enterprise helps light up our stairs. The Tron is above our little Franken-Tron and even though it's bright... you barely notice it when you are playing. And the Battlezone... the Battlezone had to be put back behind the Battlezone game since it is a bit like staring into the sun. I first had this one in the stair well but it was blinding. Actually the wifey was upstairs when I first lit it up there and she instantly was like "WTF is that?". ;)

With it up behind the game it's not too bad. I may try to put a piece of smoked Plexiglas in front of it to tone it down but it really isn't too bad(in fact it's grown on me).

I have all the neon and mood lighting on the light switch at the top of the stairs except the Tron marquee, Battlezone, and green Atari... those are on a separate switch since they are the brightest and I *thought* I may want to switch them off when I am playing the games.

I have to admit something... Gu was sooo happy that I helped him find a market here for his neon that he's been sending me free... yes... FREE signs. There is no way I would have bought all three of the $300 neons but he knew I liked them so he sent them... no questions asked and he denied me 10x over when I offered to pay.

I want to give a public thank you to Mr. Gu! :beerchug: Your talent and generosity is much appreciated my friend!

BTW, all the neon was on for 8-10 hours on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday and none of them had issues.

Glad to see you got something out of sourcing it after all. :)

Is it bad that I'm still kinda jealous? LOL

Very cool Jeff. I see that games have been moved around since the party. Everything looks great, congrats on the neon.

Thanks. :beerchug:

And yeah... I just can't seem to leave things alone. It bugs the crap out of Michele but I dunno... it really is kind of like a real arcade down there. New games come in while the unplayed games go out. :)

Not at all... I'm shocked he is sending me stuff for free. I mean... 3 months ago I didn't know Gu and he didn't know me!

Looks great Jeff. Your arcade looks better and better everytime I see it. Does this guy make a Taito sign?

Anyone else one 2 or more of Gu's signs and has black light carpet? I'm wondering if they are so bright that they wash out the effects of the UV carpet?

Wow Jeff, nice work! Really, really cool. Does the big Video Game sign still light up as well? You have a great game room. How much was that Battlezone sign?

So I can get a neon Atari sign?? So what I have been wanting. Does this Gu have a site or is He a member?

Not that I know of... yet. ;) Email him and include a logo you think would look good in neon and see what he says. He's very down to earth and aims to please.

Hi

:D
cool man!

Yeah, yeah, yeah... look who's talking Mr. Bulk Buy!?!? ;)

Yep, I just didn't have it lit up... here's a video of it in action...

(from about 1:15 to 1:45 shows the sign)

Not sure how much he'd charge for the Battelzone... he says it's too complicated for him to offer since there are just soo many bends. BUT, he did tell me he'd take emails regarding it so give it a try. My bet is $299.99...

Here you go...

How much did the Enterprise and the Tron neons cost? I am interested in them.

$299.99... they are in the above link...
(Try seeing if he'd give you a little break on a package deal? My bet is he will...)

LOL he gave you the battlezone?

Yeah, like I said... he just sent them and wouldn't take any cash. I would have paid the $300 for the Tron marquee though... it's very cool in person and the other two have really grown on me and the family.

The wifey likes the Enterprise the best out of all our neon. I think I like the Tron marquee the best followed by the Recognizer and then the Enterprise and Battlezone tied for third. BUT honestly... I love 'em all.

My level of jealousy of your setup has reached an all time high.
Esp since you got the enterprise before I did! GRRRR (there's a joke there people)

The Price of the Enterprise set me back - but I'll be order one soon. Prally by end of week.
The wifey likes the Enterprise the best out of all our neon.
GREAT taste she has. Thank her for me. :) Seriously; I'm glad you found Gu and his artistic endevor.

Nice Neon. Nice setup.
(**** must cage the jealous monstor ****)

Really cool setup Jeff! Nice array of neon no doubt. I like the Enterprise one a lot! I like the exposed ceiling as well. Never seen a Tron mini before either. And was that a copy of The Lost Highway Chronicles sitting on your Wizard of Wor? LOL Cool! Great space dude

As far as the ceiling(and walls and floors) go... I refuse to spend money on that stuff. :) Yeah, it's partially because I'm cheap but I also don't really mind it. It's all about the games to me and I kinda like the "basement" feel anyways.

Our Tron mini is an abomination! It's mostly MAME Marquee artwork fudged to fit a Pac-Man cabaret cabinet... which is falling apart btw. I'd love to get a real Tron again someday, but this one at least plays decent so it'll do for now.

And yep, you spied The Lost Highway Chronicles!!! :beerchug: It's just waiting for my son and I to sit down on the beanbag chairs and listen... Then it's going to get hung up near the X-files pin since it fits that theme nicely imho.
