Saw this on reddit and figured maybe someone here might be interested in this, there's about a hundred Video Vendor machines from the 80's that a thrift store in Texas is selling. Obviously need some work, poster there said they were selling them for $500 each. If you still have a VHS collection, and enough space for it, seems like a cool project.

I made the post on Reddit about it... so... :-D. I have restored one of these babies. Very simple. They are all basically unused machines that never sold. Stored in a warehouse that was locked up when the tenants couldn't pay the rent. Then stored for 30 years in North Texas. They are only missing plugs in some cases (cut off -- easy fix) and all of them will need new counter-weights added (the only thing the owner who had them for 30 years figured out what that you could sell the lead in the counterweights for $1 a pound. I have them in my machine so that's all good. There's actually 104 of them that were found and he's sold a few. Still plenty left. I may grab another to put into my storage for safe keeping. They're big though --- almost 8 feet long, about 72" tall, 2.5 feet wide, etc. They are beautiful wood grain 1985 VHS retro goodness complete with green screen monitor and a CP/M like O/S.

I remember how awesome it was when you snagged the first one after seeing that abandoned unit floating around google for years. The fact that there are many, many more now that could in theory satisfy everyone's demands for a unit is amazing but alas, most of us no longer have that kind of space anymore post-covid with all the other crap we've found. ;)
