I used to go to a Zody's Family Arcade in North Las Vegas in the early 80s and around 84 and 85 they had some type of Video Jukebox that I swore you put money in and they played the latest videos on a TV screen. Anyone ever heard of/seen one of these or am I imagining things and it was really just MTV?

I remember these. Godfather's Pizza in Omaha used to have one, for sure.

And when I was in the Air Force doing tech school in Mississippi (Keelser AFB in Biloxi) in 1988, they had one in the little cafe on base near our training building. One of the guys in our class was addicted to this video at the time:

The AMI/Rowe R-92 had a video option for it, if I remember right, it had a VHS deck in it, and it would fast forward/rewind to a set number on the counter to play the video, which would have to be programmed into the CCC. The juke would have to be hooked up to an external TV/Monitor too.

Edit- Looks like everything from the R-88 to the r-92 had the video option:

I remember seeing a video jukebox in a movie called 'Dead End Drive-In'. It was shot in Australia. I don't think it was a movie prop, either. I will try to find it.

Man, I want to get one of these, I knew I wasn't smoking!

Our Godfather's Pizza had a Journey, Star Wars, and some other cool shit...

You can make one:

The Virtual Jukebox software I've been playing with has the option to add music videos and to use a second display for the sole purpose of playing the videos while using the primary screen for song selection....

I remember them when I went to Six Flags outside Chicago in the mid 80s. I remember the TV was probably a 19" and 8 feet off the ground. That's the only place I have ever seen them.

I've seen these too....two of them. They exist, in fact I saw one for sale last year. It uses laserdiscs to play to the videos.

I have seen a 100 LD changer and a 25 LD changer that were used for a video jukebox. One was used at a House of Blues in the 1990's - I think the 100 LD changer - it was a beast.

Not really related but for those that are not familiar with LD technology:

Video of a player that is capable of playing both sides of the LD without physically flipping the disc. This was a big advancement when it came out. One could sit on the couch longer since the disc did not have to be removed and flipped every 30 minutes to 60 minutes.

Couch potatoes rejoiced. :)

Sounds like a Scopitone but they stopped making those around 1978 I believe....

I saw a few of those beasts in a warehouse over in Kalamazoo about 5 1/2 years ago. Apparently they were able to sell them but here's a quick pic. My camera at the time was really crappy and it was terribly dark in there so please excuse the crappy pics.

The couple of Rowe Video Music jukes I've seen used beta VCRs--I think there are two of them installed--and it would only show about 12 videos, IIRC.

The big Pioneer LD changers that were originally designed for karaoke bars held 20 and 100 discs (LC-V20 & LC-V100), and I think the earlier ones held 68 discs for some reason. The juke probably just has an LC-V20 in it.

One of the coolest consumer players was the LD-W1 which had 2 trays and could play all 4 sides automatically.

It has the capability to use two screens - one for song selection and one for videos, karaoke, WinAmp visualizations, etc. You could hook it up to a regular TV, LCD, or whatever. Pay a $25 licensing fee, and you get all the fancy features. The Demo is free to download and play with, but it'll only work for 30 mins at a time.

Check this out. All it needs is a flat-panel LCD on the wall above for videos:

Here's a rather ugly (IMO) one where they incorporated the 2nd screen in the front and the touchscreen is up above:

And here's a guy who custom-built a replica bubbler from scratch:

These things are like MAME's - some very nice examples, and some not-so-nice examples:

It was the LC-V100 that I saw for sale in the Austin area about a year ago, I think. I was tempted but decided it was way too big.
