I just picked-up a 2009 Megatouch ION and noticed that one of the cool features that it has is the ability to connect with a Video Jukebox (AMI brand). Does anyone know about these AMI Jukes?

1. How much do the cost?
2. Can you find them used anywhere?
3. How loud are they?
4. Is there another brand/type that is better bang for the buck?

Basically, I would like to have a touchscreen/video jukebox setup in my basement arcade and I am not sure if I am better off buying or trying to build my own (I have an unused touchscreen monitor)?!? The ability to connect it to the Megatouch is cool but not really necessary...

Thanks!

The AMI touchscreen jukeboxes are downloader/internet type of boxes, just like a Touchtunes. You could probably pick one up an older used one from eBay, but the problem is going to be that you aren't going to be able to activate it and get it to play.

In order to get one of these boxes up and running you must be an operator, have an account with AMI and be setup to pay the jukebox play fees. These jukeboxes connect to AMI's central server and if a specific box is not associated with an active operator account it won't play.

The juke's run proprietary hardware and software, I have heard of people wiping the drives and getting some older models to run Windows or Linux and using them as multimedia players, but due to the proprietary nature of the systems this isn't something that could be considered easily do-able. It is possible to snag an older box, strip the proprietary hardware out of it, save the cab, touchscreen and amplifier/sound system and install a PC running an OS and media player of your choice.

Yup those Megatouch games are only designed to connect to an activated Rowe-Ami downloader jukebox. Only route operators are allowed to buy the downloaders. If you somehow actually managed to buy one of those downloader jukes on ebay, you could never get it activated to play music because you're not an operator.

Thank you! I figured that might be the case but I hoped there was an alternative (e.g. hard drive or ipod dock).

That leaves me with building my own Video Juke then. Any ideas, hints, plans, direction that folks could offer would be immensely appreciated!!!
