Did any one go? I'd been hoping to go, since the kids had a great time last year. But was busy. :-(
Never saw it mentioned here this year and a quick search found no posts. Last year had a good amount of classic games and a HUGE turnout, I had read they wanted to expand for this year.
Anyone have any info??
Thanks

EDIT: last year it was mid Nov, many people still have plans every weekend in Oct (we were down the shore)

holy shit!! i missed it??? I went last year... i cant believe they didnt mention it on the radio like they always do... god dam it!!!!!!!!!

they had a HUGE display of clasic arcade last year..im sooo pissed now!!!!!

Missed it as well... My buddy and I usually plan all these out, for some reason I thought it was later in the year, early November like you said.
The arcade is usually pretty good. If you get there early you can get some time on the games. It gets crowded from right before lunchtime on.

thats very foolish of them.. they didnt advertise much at all and they scheduled it for the same weekend as the york gameroom show.. oh well, i was onthe fence about going again anyway.. sure they had about 50 classics, but if you werent into console and pc games, then there wasnt much else for you to do.

Seriously. I've gone a few times and if you aren't into current gaming, then it's awfully expensive just to get access to about 50 arcades. None of the talks had anything to do with the older stuff, so I just gave it up.

I actually skipped it this year, but I did go to the "Video Games Live" concert at the Kimmel center. It was pretty good - i think they could have ramped it up a bit but it was still good the way it was. Seeing the youtube Martin guy play piano (mario bros player) was sick! I wish I could play like that! The concert was heavily advertised on WMMR at least.

Last year I went to VGxpo but was pretty dissapointed - went a couple days and overall the arcade area was crowded so all the games were being played a lot, and other than that everything was laid out so far apart that I couldn't find anything. The vendor area for classics was downright tiny, and nothing else really interested me.

I was going to go but had other things to do so I skipped it this year. I didn't even know about it until I got the email from them...on Thursday or Friday!

That said - there is another show or two coming up - I believe one called Game-X at the new convention center in Oaks (PA), and apparently I mustve lost the paper but some kind of show or Video Game music festival in Valley Forge (PA), as well as one in DC called Magfest I think. I think the papers are in my car I'll post up if I find em.

Seems we have a few collectors in the area - maybe we should meet up somewhere? I'd love to host one but my garage is a disaster, although I'm working on getting it inhabitable.

I'd like this, but I'm in a similar situation for hosting. First, I don't have a lot of games (my two main uprights are the MAME machines that got me back into the hobby), and I also have games spread out in 3 different rooms counting the garage. I have a 12x25' Florida room that is eventually going to be a dedicated game room, but the conversion is one of those projects that keeps getting bumped to the back of the list by other renovations.

I think it'd be cool to meet a Richie Knucklez place one night. I've been meaning to get there, but I've been out of town or have other stuff going on every time there is an event.

I love the whole convention, im into both classic and current... Anytime im not playing with my machines im usually playing COD:WAW ....

Im a gamer through and through......

I went last year and it sucked I'm never going to go again. When I went last year it was just a room filled with banks of PC's really who the hell wants to go somewhere Just to play people on a PC's If I wanted to do that I could stay home and do it for free. Also trying to get some time on an Arcade game was next to impossible.

two things made this year's show a little less than stellar:

1. GamEx stole a bunch of exhibitors. (show occurs in two weeks - oaks, pa)

2. Videotopia's main roster of games is still in the Rochester museum, so the coin-op selection was more of a B-List, but some younger folks enjoyed the 90s games like Tokyo Wars, Gunblade, Virtua-On, etc. There were classics, but not nearly as many as last year.

my guess is they will go more "grassroots" next year and end up at the Valley Forge convention center.

Thanks for the info on GamEx. I'm on vacation that week, maybe I'll check it out on Friday.
I'm not totally sure because it looks like no arcade, other stuff like art, animation and costume stuff. Not too focused on games.

They are also doing something that I hate at car shows... Dragging in D-List celebrities that just adds a crowd that doesn't care about the subject of the show.

That would be sweet - I miss it being there! I had a booth there that was featured in the Philly Inquirer.

I much prefer Valley Forge to the city, even though its a longer drive for me.
