I was talking to my kids about this yesterday and they got a good laugh from it,Being that cheat codes are non existent in games nowadays. Are there any codes that you still remember to this day from your youth?

The code to fight mike 007 373 5963 (I pretended this was a phone number and thats why I still remember it lol)

hahaha. I remember using the Warcraft codes alot.
There was one I used alot called "hatchet" That let you cut the hell outta the trees.

Also used the codes ICBM and Big Bertha on my Age of Empires games.

The contra code you speak of is widely known as the Konami code as it would work on Lifeforce, Contra, and other Konami games.

"Help Me" for Castlevania 3

"Justin Bailey" for Metroid.

There are still codes out there, especially in games like Grand Theft Auto (giving you weapons/money/reducing the stars you have) and I believe in the pokemon games.

I guess you haven't looked at gamefaqs.com. I think there are more codes out today that there was when I was younger. We had a monthly magazine with a few codes or if you were lucky a game genie. Now there are hundreds of websites dedicated to just cheat codes and even game hacks to change the game itself to suit your needs. If you wanted you can even download peoples game saves and use it one your system so you don't even have to play the game.

yeah, thats putting numbers in a cell phone though, I'm talking codes entered by button.

There are still plenty of codes you enter through buttons. GTA was just the first example to pop into my head.

Cheat codes originated BITD as a way to allow the game programmers to be able to play through sections that were too hard for their skills (but not beyond the genetic mutazoids out there that could). Examples of what can happen if you didn't do this abound in early games. The Pacman invisible maze screen, the DK "kill" screen, scores rolling over to 0 in a ton of games. etc. They were usually pulled out before the games shipped, but sometimes programmers forgot. Later they were expected and games were shunned if they didn't have some cheat codes.

Imagine playing Doom without GodMode.

For those that don't know about the Galaga/Ms. Pac-Man Reunion "Class of 81" arcade games, after you put in your quarter and get to the game-select menu:

Up, Up, Up, Down, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left

You will hear the game go "ding ding ding ding ding" and the ghost on the left will change colors.

Hit the Ms. Pac-Man start button and the game will now play original Pac-Man. Once the game is over it goes back to starting Ms. Pac-Man unless you do the code again.

I did this in a restaurant and one of the employees saw me and asked how I was playing regular Pac-Man. I told her, "If you get over a million points in Galaga, and then over 500,000 points in Ms. Pac-Man, it lets you play regular Pac-Man." She believed me...

Mod, I don't remember it off the top of my head, but there's another code you can enter on those Ms Pac/Galaga reunion games to toggle it between regular and turbo speed. Bubble Bobble has codes you can enter to make it Super mode, and Original mode (the latter gives you all the power ups to start). If you ever find a Japanese Crazy Climber, when you enter your initials, enter "jordan.ltd" and you'll get 2 free credits :D (doesn't work on the American PCB since you can only enter 3 initials)

who can guess these ones, dont use google to cheat!

How about the DULLARD for mortal kombat. I remember seeing that in a magazine for the first time as a kid and could not get home fast enough to try it. But there is not many codes for games on systems now. Like I have a xbox 360 and it seems like codes have been replaced by damn achievements and unlockables grrrr.

I found that Hydro Thunder on the PS2/Dreamcast had a code you entered for your initials if finishing in 1st on any track that would unlock all the boats and the tracks. Tried it on the arcade and it worked there, too.

Also, there are button combos you can do with the radio and view buttons to get the "secret" boats like the mini Titanic and the fishing boat (complete with outboard motor and a dog that sits in the front and barks at other boats that get too close)...
