VGA to HDMI?

I am working on getting some 26" LCD displays for Daytona USA. However, I am only finding things with HDMI inputs and not VGA inputs. Amazon sells a VGA to HDMI cable (Best Buy doesn't) but it has bad reviews. And some funky video card mumbo jumbo:

I want to use these TVs:

I have an adapter video card like this one:

Can I put the three together and make it work? I am thinking I cannot and I am bummed.

Just find a LCD TV that features auto power on when unplugged and plugged back in.
I used a 26" Vizio LCD LED TV for a replacement monitor. It has a VGA input and also powers on when unplugged and plugged back in, so no need for a remote.
I paid about $130 for it. It was a brand new open box item that was missing the stand (didn't need it anyways).

Biggest thing for me was finding a TV that would auto power back on. You can find 26" TVs w/ VGA inputs all day long, but it's the auto power on thing that had me. I was not about to have to power on a game and then use a remote to turn on the monitor (TV).

Actually going to the store is easier because the associates will have no idea what you are talking about.

All you have to do is put the TV on VGA input (if allowed, some may not if nothing is plugged in) and unplug it. Wait a minute or so and plug back in. If it turns on automatically and returns to the VGA input, then that is the one you want.

I just returned from Best Buy empty handed. The Samsung 26" was really, really, really nice. However, no VGA input. Same with the LG... no VGA input.

I did not see the COBY. I'm guessing yours powers on and stays on PC? $160 is $90 cheaper than I planned on.

And the Vizio Razors? Could you post the model number? I will pick from things that worked for someone else. Thank you all for your help.

On that note, I recently replaced the big projection tv in my prop cycle, and auto-power on was a big desire for the same reason, although because screen size and physical dimensions were critical issues for me (not to mention good picture, no burn, and cheap), I decided I could live without the "auto-power on" feature. At least when you hit power on the remote it does come back on to the "video 1" input and maintain the same volume as before.

I'm planning to wire in a circuit to pulse the power button input shortly after power is applied to the game. Should be pretty straight forward. I don't know if that would be something to think about in the case posted about here but john's post alluded to something I'm sort of in the midst of dealing with so I thought I'd chime in FWIW.

Another thing to think about is digital tv's tend to have latency that can affect game play due to increasing the reaction time. This is caused by the post-processing they tend to do to make a nice picture (upscaling and whatnot). I think that's more of an issue on HDMI inputs than VGA from what I understand. So it might be worthwhile to compare latencies from TV to TV and HDMI vs. VGA before choosing. Just one of the reasons to stick with good old fashioned CRT's. :)

Thank you for input. I am good on the TV knowledge. What upsets me is that the best models do not have VGA inputs.

I am debating the 26" Cobys and the 26" Vizio Razors. I did check my vizios. The environmental models do not auto power up. The others do.

What I used was the Vizio E261VA Razor 26" LED LCD. It has VGA and auto power on.

This is my extra one I'm selling:

Ebay has a BIN working, no issues one for $170 shipped, looking quick.
Like I said, I got mine for around $130 shipped, so fine one with no issues and place a bid.
Make sure NOT to buy one that has issues.

That little lip at the bottom of the TV doesn't cause you any mounting problems? In the pictures at store's websites, the TV looks like it leans backwards a little. That doesn't cause a problem inside your machines?

Those cables are meant to run VGA monitors off of a computer that supports analog video output over an HDMI port. They will not translate VGA (an analog signal) to HDMI (a digital signal). EDIT: Retracted. Apparently some video cards support this.

In general, you need an active converter to make HDMI video from VGA video. This will work:

Thanks. I figured that out via google yesterday. I apperciate the confirmation. I am going to get to work on the adapters when I get home.

Need to connect the new video card and splice some cables. Figure I won't touch the old monitor until I have the new one working.
