I just installed a NOS VGA monitor in my multicade which is an ICADE 60-1 . The PCB was switched to use the vga monitor.

The monitor works just fine however I can't seem to get the focus pefect. The images seem a bit fuzzy and there is a slight shadow effect on the scores.

I adjusted what I could think of which included the focus knob on the flyback.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance !!

Is it fuzzy, as in blurry, or is it smearing to the side? I'd start by turning down the SCREEN control a bit, and then readjusting the focus. If the screen voltage is up too high, it'll overdrive stuff and can make the colors smear and things look fuzzy.

Speaking of "screen". When putting in a new flyback, should one always start with it as low as possible? Is that left, or right?

When replacing a flyback with a built-in screen control, I generally just leave it in the center. But "all the way down" would be counterclockwise (to the left). Having the screen control all the way up won't hurt anything on a raster monitor with working deflection. A vector monitor with the screen control all the way up will run the risk of burning a dot in the center if left alone. Some devices have such weak power supplies that when the screen control is up all the way, it'll start trying to go into shutdown (cheap TV's mostly). Makes this really weird chirping and the screen flickers like it's shutting off, then comes back, etc.

Is this a Kortek by chance? There was a problem with some bleeding going on with those recently.

Otherwise, turn your contrast down a bit and see how it looks. Check to see that the frame is properly grounded. If the monitor is more than 3 years old, you might need new caps...

Monitor focus

not sure of the brand , I will have to check that, but its NOS never used before this.

I will mess with the contrast .

Thanks
