I'm trying to put a vertical monitor in an old defender cabinet I have laying around... I put my monitor in and it's like an inch too big. Anyone have any ideas other than not using this cabinet to get this to work.

Without cutting the cab... you probably would have to use a 13" monitor to fit it vertically... Defender is really wide and squatty in the monitor space, its really not set up for vertical orientation.

Oh ... I wouldn't recommend cutting it because I think it would ruin the cab and probably look pretty funny. You actually may be able to mount the monitor tilted, rather than straight up and down which would require you to remove the shelf. But I'm not sure if the cab is deep enough to accommodate that either (as the monitor may stick out past the rear door). You would have to take some measurements.

If possible I would just look for a cab that has a vertical orientation. These types of mods don't usually work out very well and usually end up ruining the cab.

If the Defender cab is in decent condition I wouldn't hack it up. I'd try to find someone that wants it for a restoration project. You should be able to find a junker cabinet you'll be able to pull a vertical mount in for next to nothing. That said if the cab is too far gone to be restored to Defender, or you can't find anyone to pay you for the cab then cut it to hell.

if its for a 60 in1 just use a 17in or 19in computer monitor

The easiest way I've seen (I haven't actually done it myself) to modify Williams cabs for vertical monitors is to take out the monitor shelf completely, put a piece of 1/2" plywood over the front and cut a hole in it so the monitor drops in. Then you can use the monitor mounting holes to secure it to the plywood.

Here is a picture of a horizontal version of that:

Note the slots on the bottom for the base to slide in. You would need to do the same for the vertical monitor. If I can find a Moon Patrol cab in decent shape, I will probably end up doing that to convert it to a Sinistar.

This is also the way that Centipedes mount horizontal monitors into a vertical position, it is just rotated 90 degrees in a Centipede.
