Vending Help.. Fawn Snack Machine.. Coin Acceptor

Re: Vending Help.. Fawn Snack Machine.. Coin Acceptor

The original is a 220 uf @ 25 volts with axial leads.

Radio Shack # 272-1017 will work or a # 272-1018 if there's room for a physically bigger diameter capacitor on the board.

Remember you can go up in voltage rating. In this case the original is used as a power supply filter so you can even go up in uf to a 330 or 470 uf.

Yes all electrolytic capacitors are aluminum electrolytics.

Re: Vending Help.. Fawn Snack Machine.. Coin Acceptor

Ok.. I got to the electronic mom/pop shop prior to reading your reply..

I got a new cap.. 50v x 440 uf I believe, he said the same thing about its used as a filter.

But he also tested the old one and said it was good.. cracked, but good.. I replaced it.. will try again tonight at work.

I also took out the one questionable wire switch.. planning on opening it and cleaning the contacts, etc.. tonight.

I got a reply from Fawn Sales I will post in a bit.. basically check wires and relays.. will post in a bit.

Re: Vending Help.. Fawn Snack Machine.. Coin Acceptor

That one diode that's burnt in the middle of the board should be checked. If bad replace it, if good resolder it. I think that's a 12 volt zener diode similar to what Coinco used in their cigarette machine pricing boxes for Automatic Products' cigarette machines. The power circuitry appears similar to what you have.

Re: Vending Help.. Fawn Snack Machine.. Coin Acceptor

Ken/Mod,

I installed the new cap.. 470 x 50v. Radial instead of Axial but it fit.

I also looked at those wire switches closer. I took the one questionable one apart.. and another to see how to put it back together!

The top one, is still questionable, it just doesn't have a good solid "click" in operation, and the continuity test while operating it is irratic at best.

So, can I replace that switch, and where? Can I just get a whole new acceptor cheaply and be done w/ it?

I'm gonna reinstall tonight and try it after monkeying w/ it.

** Here is the email reply from Fawn,
If the snack machine will accept money but will not vend, then you would need to check the plugs from the relay panel on the selector switches, be sure that they are in solid and not loose or wires loose.

Also check the white orange wire from the relay panel to the motors, this wire could be bad from the relay panel to the motors, visibility check and also with a continuity tested,.

Lastly if everything checks ok then the coin mechanism is likely bad and would need to be checked or replaced.

This machine will not accept a Menu Mart (3079), you would need a model 3014A or newer to accept the Menu Mart cold food machine.

I'm not familiar with his references.. seems to say if I need to replace the whole thing, its not available.. I'm not sure what a "menu mart 3014A" is? Just a newer replacement plug and play coin acceptor??

As for the zener diode.. I will have to check it at home.. no desolder iron here.. I checked it in circuit.. and it seem to test fine.. like a normal diode?

Re: Vending Help.. Fawn Snack Machine.. Coin Acceptor

I guess he means install a newer changer.

24 volt AC, FOUR price. Find 'em on ebay cheap.

Re: Vending Help.. Fawn Snack Machine.. Coin Acceptor

hmm.. SUCCESS?? I dunno.. just put it back in...

and it works! I tried 4 times.. worked everytime!

BUT, I also tried to change the price from all 4 trays at .60, to the top 2 trays to .25cents to get rid of old stock.. this made ALL 4 trays work at .25 cents..

I don't know why.. so I put them all back to .60 and hope the old stale stuff goes.

I don't have alot of confidence it will last a week.. so lets keep fingers crossed.

KEN, I all for buying another one.. but wasn't sure what would be plug and play.. ANY 24 V will work?

On a related note.. I'll post about what / how I can add a bill acceptor to my older pepsi machine.. I think it had one once.. cause there is a cut out in the front door, but it takes change only.

**BTW.. the pop machine.. sometimes you have to put a quarter in 10 times or more before it takes it.. old and new style.. is there an adjustment or somethign I can do it make it take quarters the first time.. it doesn't do it w/ dimes or nickels..

Thanks Ken and Mod for your help.. lets keep fingers crossed.

Re: Vending Help.. Fawn Snack Machine.. Coin Acceptor

When setting the dip switches you must alway power down the machine then replay power so the new settings are recognized.

Coinco is well known for using absolutely rock bottom of the barrel shitty dip switches that go bad internally too.

As I said any four price 24v AC changer with the usual 8 pin Jones plug should work. See if any local vending companies will sell you a working equivalent changer cheap.

Capital Vending (www.capitalvending.com) and Vendor's Exchange International (www.veii.com) sell adapter harnesses that aloow other style changers (same voltage!) to work in different applications. They also have adapter harnesses that allow a dollar bill accepter to plug into the changer to add dollar bill acceptance to your machines.

If your pop machine has a mechanical Coinco 790 series coin acceptor, it probably needs a good cleaning to take quarters better.

Re: Vending Help.. Fawn Snack Machine.. Coin Acceptor

Ken,

I tried to power off the vending to change prices on just two of the 4 trays.. still made ALL the trays change.. so I just put them all back to .60 , too tired to experiment and found out if its dips for tray 1 or tray 2 that seems to be controlling all the rest. Just happy its working!

The pop machine is a dixie-narco with a CoinCo S75-9800A coin acceptor.. There is a metal plate over a hole in the front door that I was told is where a bill acceptor was.

Of course.. a bill acceptor would have to take the new bills today ? I only need one that takes 1's.. in fact, I'm sorta worried about that.. this coin mech gives change in nickels! It would only take a buck or two to empty the nickel reserves it keeps.. be better if it gave change in quarters..

I only charge .50 can pop.. its for the volunteer fire guys and the Police guys .. so cheap as possible. I would have to bump it up to .75 just to have change in nickels longer.

Re: Vending Help.. Fawn Snack Machine.. Coin Acceptor

A pop machine is generally _not_ designed to take 5 dollar bills. Ordinary dollar bill acceptors are typically what's used in pop machine applications. Sometimes $1 and $5 bill acceptors are used, but with $5 acceptance turned off because the changer can't handle the change payback (unless of course the latest/newest changer models are installed which have quarter payback). Single price coin changers operating on 115 v AC are typically found in pop machine applications.

Your S75-9800A was replaced by the S75-9800B with greater pricing abilities. Check out some of the changer/bill acceptor interface harness adapters at www.advendtech.com

Look at their # VH160 harness. It's exactly what you need to add a bill acceptor to your pop machine with your existing changer (or any single price changer).

Re: Vending Help.. Fawn Snack Machine.. Coin Acceptor

I got an email in to them about the harness and the bill acceptor.. Their exchange prices are not too bad..

I also asked them about giving change in nickels thing.. so I'll see what they say!

thanks for the link.. its helpful

Re: Vending Help.. Fawn Snack Machine.. Coin Acceptor

leinhit, what dont you tinker with?
and ken. you are the friggin man! what dont you tinker with?
You guys are both great assets to this board and i just want to thank you for bieng here and helping morons like myself out.

Re: Vending Help.. Fawn Snack Machine.. Coin Acceptor

My latest project is a flood damaged Rowe bill changer. It was completely underwater. So far I've got several hours into it and it looks like it's going to live.

Re: Vending Help.. Fawn Snack Machine.. Coin Acceptor

Sorry! I didn't see this thread updated...

So far the candy Fawn Snack is working! But still can't change tray prices.. I figure I better leave well enough alone.

I'm gonna take off the coin return.. someone keeps pushing down hard and it jams open the coin return on the coin mech, and then the next person can't put coins in.

As for a bill changer.. I got an external one, rowe I think, that one I asked you about.. Works fine! mounted it to the outside.

I would like to get one of the trays a different price.. I just need to mess with it.. but working like it is , better than not at all!

I would like another bill changer.. I have another pop/vending combo machine to put in the DPW city builing.. would like a bill changer to go with it...

I'll be bidding on one at auction tomorrow.. but they seem to go for over 100.00. and I want to pay maybe 50?
