Vectrex arcade machine monitors 19"

But....you could have just ordered one smaller and saved the original.....

I agree but.... It wasn't my call at least it was used on a dedicated bubbles dura mold I also didn't want to argue to much because I bought that wood bubbles cab after it was stripped and it got me a cheaper price I have an original Marquee back on it now and it's all original again no jrok no jamma all original

If anyone wants to know how to build one on their own pm me

You, sir, are a goddamn hero. I cannot believe how cool this mod is!

If I may make a couple suggestions, as a Vectrex fan, I would add a second analog joystick and 4 buttons on the control panel, there are some games (like Space Wars and Rip-Off) that allow for 2-player simultaneous play. As someone else has suggested, I would disconnect the Vectrex's monitor while it's in the cabinet, no need to add wear to it. I don't know if you can come across a broken/unsalvageable Vectrex but, if you do, I'd cannibalize the cart slot and wire it into the control panel so that you don't have to keep bending down and accessing the Vectrex through the coin slot door. Or maybe there's some other way to allow for a slot of some kind so that you can plug in carts.

Of course, the ultimate set-up would include making full-size overlays for the various games, haahaaha. That would be a tedious hell swapping them, I know. I wonder, is there a type of LCD display that is see-thru when it's off but can display images that are basically transparent, sort of a digital overlay screen on top of the CRT? That would solve all the overlay problems. They're not necessary but they do add to the experience.

I would also suggest a custom cabinet that looks kind of like a giant Vectrex. Meaning it's mostly black and is sloping back slightly like the way Tempest is shaped (though with less back slope). Actually, looking at it, it has a sort of Cinematronics Space Wars shape to it, too.

Again, this is incredibly cool, glad you shared it.

I've got an extremely abused Battlezone cab and most of the part minus the PCBs, I think rather than go through all the trouble and expense of restoring that I'm going to take the monitor and make a custom Vectrex cab, I've just got to get a Vectrex at some point.

Can OP fix the title it's Vectrex and it's driving me nuts seeing that spelled wrong when it comes up in the new feed, k thx :)

OP still hasn't fixed the "C" button on his keyboard. Maybe we need to start a gofundme?

You know what ArcadeJason needs to do next, right? That Battlezone cab mention gives me the idea that the viewer "scope" that you have to get your face up into to see the screen would be the perfect excuse to make a Vectrex arcade cab for the 3D games! Yes, a giant spinner color wheel (or 2 smaller ones, one for each eye) that would work like the Vectrex 3D Viewer, so that the few rare stereo Vectrex games could be played. Talk about trouble and expense, but it would be worth it, haahahaa.

Actually you might be able to adapt a Subroc 3-D periscope as it essentially does the same thing, you'd just have to figure out the wheels and the speeds.

Oh, man. This would be so cool in a cabaret type cab with a cart slot on the control panel and a slot for big gel overlays.

Hey! That's the project I was planning for next summer! I picked up a doner monitor/power brick a month ago and a scratch-built cabinet on Friday. If there weather wasn't getting colder I would be working on it now.

I would do.it only if there were overlays for ALL the games. Otherwise ita not really worth it unless ur doing it for a few... also im sure the oveelays will cost..
The originals go for like 25.00 couldnt imagine how much 24 x24 inch ones would go for..
Seems like a very expensive deal if ur gonna do it right

It's a 13" monitor from a cocktail that will be going into a cabaret cabinet. I thought it would be a good addition next to my Battlezone, Asteroids Deluxe, and Omega Race cabarets. I'm not overly concerned with overlays. I'm more concerned with getting a good feel for the joystick and buttons on the control panel. Since it's going to be a custom job, I may get it functional at first and then it evolves over time.

I don't really think all the overlays for the Vectrex games are anything important for game play. It's more just color to jazz it up. You could keep a standard blue overlay for MANY of the games and it would be just fine (and still look nice).

Some games, for sure, it's important to have the overlays, but honestly, I don't think there are all that many.

So, personally, I don't think it would be necessary to have ALL the overlays made. I bet 8 or 10 would be plenty.

Maybe there would be enough guys out there who would be willing to purchase 10 large overlays (19" or 13")?

I'd be in for 10 of the 19" overlays, and I know of 2 other collectors who would also commit. So that's three people right there.

Any thoughts?

i had the very same idea i also have a few spare battlezone cabs but my wife said she thought it was a bad idea

Jason,

Getting a Vectrex to output to an vector arcade monitor is something I've been thinking about for about a year. Just a couple days ago I saw your video on YouTube on how to do it. Good stuff. Thanks for posting this article too. I've got a 13" monitor and power brick from an Asteroids coctail to try it on. If all goes well my plan is to put it all in a cabinet similar to what you did with your Star Castle except to make it a custom Vectrex cab. Thanks for the info.
