Hi;
I am contemplating the purchase of the Sega Multigame from VectorLabs and was wondering if anyone else had already made this purchase and if so, what is your opinion?
Thanks in advance
Jeff

It's a must have. I have one installed in my Star Trek Asteroids conversion. I love it so much I ordered a second kit for one of my other Star Treks.

And here is the install videos I made.

What EXACTLY is needed if someone didn't have a Sega Vector cab to get this multikit up and going?

Multikit
G08

What else?

Thanks!

PS: Does VectoLabs have a website? If so, why isn't the link in his sig?

Vector Labs has a web address but only has some pictures posted on it, no web pages. I assume he's so busy with all his projects, he never had the time for the web site. Just PM him and I am sure he will get back with you.
If you want to get a SEGA multi game going it's best to find a Star Trek game. You can use any of the vector G 80 vector games but Star Trek has all the buttons and the spinner already on the control panel. If you have one of the games like Space Fury you will have to add the spinner and a couple buttons so you will have to wire them into the harness. The multi game remapped all the games so you use the spinner to rotate the ships on all the games instead of the spinner on some and buttons on the others.
If you want to build one from scratch you will need the G08 monitor, G-80 power transformer,G-80 power supply, G-80 wiring harness, G-80 card cage with the CPU board,xy timing board,xy control board,universal sound board,speech board, Eliminator sound board, Space Furry sound board and the Vector Labs SEGA multi game kit.
When Mike releases the multi sound board you will not need the hard to find sound boards.

You'd need a G80 card cage and power supply and an amplifier at a minimum. You'd need some sort of harness to hook it all together and some suitable spinner device.

I think it would be quite a hack to run this in something other than a Sega cabinet.

Finding a working meatball and battlestar board can be a challenge and without those there is no sound for the games except Tac Scan and Star Trek. That was also mostly the problem with Clay's kit besides the voice issues his kit had.

VL has previously indicated that they will be selling a Universal sound board in July but I am sure this date is not certain since it's less than a month away and there have been no updates.

I have the VL kit in my star trek. Installation was fairly easy but there is some cutting of traces and jumpering needed for the sound boards, even if you just have the one for Star Trek.

Overall, it's nice to have all the games in one cabinet.

Nice;
Thanks for the input. I was just a bit apprehensive as there was not VectorLabs "homepage" but seeing all the positive feedback (especially Sam!), I have placed my order!.
Thanks again - and - "Welcome Aboard Captain".....

I'd like to throw my 2 cents in here and say that this is a most excellent kit. If you can find a dead Star Trek for cheap, you will be able to acquire everything you need cheaper than if you were to source it individually. I know that the multi-sound board is on the back burner right now due to the demands for the ESB kits. There are a whole lot more people with Star Wars that want to install these kits than Sega vector owners. I'm sure Mike will get around to finishing up the multi-sound just as soon as he can. Realize that these Sega multi-vector kits take a while to make up. I don't know how many he has ready to ship right now. I am very confident that you will get yours. You have to remember that this is a hobby for him and as such is at the mercy of his "real" job and other demands on his time. I've got some G08 monitors here I might be convinced to part with. They are all non=working. I had every intention of repairing them but I just don't have the time. Some of them have been necked but I have some replacement tubes for them that should work. I am going to test one of these tubes in my 6100 soon and will know whether or not they will work with the G08s.....and yes, they are 100 degree tubes for those that are wondering.

Nope. I have some tv tubes out of some Zenith TVs with no burn. Haven't tried them yet. Too busy. I have a few outstanding deals to finish up. I will be documenting the swap and will post here if it works. Sorry for the thread hijack.

Chiming in a little late here...

If you have a Sega vector, do not hesitate to get this kit! I had Clay's kit in mine for years, and it was certainly very cool to have and I applaud Clay for making the kit all those years ago, but I really missed having sound in all the games.

I got the new VL kit, and it's been great. I have an ST upright and I don't have the other sound boards, but even so, the new kit does have speech in the other games that have speech (Zektor and Space Fury) which does make a difference. I also like being able to change games without the use of a separate switch.

And I'm sure Mike will complete the multi-sound card eventually...can't wait to install that one, too!

Get this kit while they're still available!

Jon
