Vector Monitor Test Aids (extension cables)

BTW - does the length of the wire (and subsequent wire resistance) cause any signal drop for the vectors? been a while since I measured the voltages...

It does, though I don't have any specific knowledge without looking things up..

The signal wires at the very least must be twisted, and ideally twisted & shielded for the longer runs. Leave the straight wire for power & gnd only. The wires were twisted even for Atari's 2' extensions, though using large-gauge wire like they did for the signals isn't necessary.

And this avg joe appreciates when things are simple , or retard proof .

if a simple "use the same connector at each end" instruction doesn't make it retard-proof, somebody probably shouldn't be working around a monitor in the first place :)

One 12 and 15 pin connector at each end is pretty simple, really. Anyway, it was just an idea, as it would help keep Dokert's costs down for everybody planning to buy one--if I needed one I'd probably build it that way.

I believe HudsonArcade made a few of these a while back... I think he still has a pile of them left... just a heads up.

Didn't read the whole thread, so I'm not sure if that was mentioned or not.

It was mentioned in the Raster thread regarding the Vector ones. IIRC Mark said that he had bunch of people wanting them, and after he made them nobody owned up and bought them.

If it does, I sure haven't seen it.

These are a straight pass through, and seem to work just fine without twisting any wires at all.

Your idea has merit, as I have said before and I do appreciate your input.

I dont have the Vector extension yet. But I have seen it in action, when Dokert was in tiwn a few weeks ago. I picked up a Asteroids cabaret project board needs work, did not know if the monitor worked. Moved it next to my Battlezone hooked up the Asteroids monitor to the Battlezone. BAM!!! Nice working monitor in the Cabaret.

It would appear that there is enough interest to do a small run of these. I will crunch the wire numbers today, and get the wire on order tomorrow.

I will take a vector as well to match the raster in the other thread.

Any word on whether or not these sets are going to happen? I'd like to pay for mine and secure my place in the first run.

This is going to happen soon. The wire has been shipped, the connectors and pins are in hand. I will be opening up the official list next week sometime.

I am in for one as already stated

BUT please note my user name has changed due to hotmail blocking emails

Sorry for any inconvenience :)

The wire arrived last night, and I now have everything in hand to start production on these. This will be a limited run of 20, and I will try to work the special requests that have been made into the mix.

I had planned on starting on these today, but I am not feeling very well. We have pushed back the start until tomorrow.

I will be making the List from this thread, pm's, and emails that I have received. I will post the List when I make a for sale thread. The for sale thread will be posted when these are within a day or two of being ship ready.

If, and I say "IF" I have the wire available I will make a limited run of 10 Raster Monitor Test Aids for those who have missed out.

I think I've already mentioned it, but I'm down for both vector and raster aids if you have the space on your lists (and I'm not already on there.) :)
