For the lucky owners of a Zektor Vector Generator, there is now a Linux version of Vector MAME to try out. It is basically a new design that uses a custom renderer to interface with the ZVG SDK.

I'm seeing *much* better performance on Linux than the previous Windows version.

If you're interested in Beta-testing the software, please go to www.radiantbacon.com and download it there.

Have fun :)

Every time I read about a ZVG update here, it just grinds more salt into the wound. With AAE in complete disfunction, ZVG is the only "stable" dedicated vectormame emulation application. And I have a perfect cabinet for a ZVG right now but I will be going Macmame OS9 for dedicated vector game emulation action.
Just remember, ZVG is only drawing what mame puts out, it's still emulation and even these vectors will not be 100% true to original but be drawn on a real vector monitor none the less. I can get Macmame OS 9 to look close on a nice crt but there's always the issue for vector width vs. brightness. Man, I hope Tim starts working on AAE again soon!

Oh, my bad.

Just let me know when you think I should offer my work for free on the boards here, and I'll do it with the utmost respect for the people who don't have a ZVG to begin with.

Steve,

Disregard aloc's comments. This is appreciated.

aloc, this has absolutely nothing to do with the mame crap that has gone on this board. No one complained on all the threads I have started around my ZVG multivector and the new menu for it. The only difference is that it runs on Linux instead of Windows...

You're work is much appreciated by those of us with ZVGs who understand the current limitations with it software and hardware wise. Looking forward to trying it out with Ubuntu...

really?!? mame?!? havent we had enough of mame the past week? try my code here blah blah. bad timing stevej imho.

Yeah, don't be hating on mame. Mame is awesome. Crazy people like tinfoil for their hats, too, but that doesn't mean we're going to get rid of tinfoil! ;)

Mame got a lot of us into this hobby.

Yes, please disregard negative comments. I appreciate the hard work you have put in...in the end I don't have the space or $$ to have a full blown vector arcade. VectorMame + ZVG is my only option. And so, I want the best I can get. If the Linux version is faster and closer to the original games, then I will figure out how to build a linux rig to run it. It is a shame as the ZVG menu that Shilmover is helping to test and get going is Windows...

Ahhh but I think a Linux version won't be too far behind once a stable Mame set is working.

All of this development is awesome. I want to express my gratitude to everyone who is putting forth there own time for the betterment of the community as a whole. With the recent menu rewrite and now this port, we are close to a perfect multi vector. I have a zvg and Space Duel that needs a few repairs. I can't wait to put everything together.

THANKS!!

and of course this happens right after I get my DOS based one almost perfect. :p

Of course, i kid as all this work (Linux, menu, CPO/Marquee, etc) is great.

I am trying to compile the last version of DOSMame so that it runs just the vector games (hence loading way, way faster), but have not had much luck yet.

i d like to say if i have offended stevej by my comment i apologize. i wasnt trying to imply that steve or his site had anything to do with the tinfoil hat guy. i 'll remove it

Thanks guys... I'll get the source up on the site as soon as I get some independent confirmation that it's working.

Confirmed on:

Ubuntu 10.10 (maveric) 32 bit
Pentium 4, 2.4 Ghz
WG6100 (Space Duel cabinet)

I needed -flipx to reverse the x axis. No other issues.

We're free from DOS at last, thank you!!
