I have had a Vector LabsSW/ESBkit for years that I never got around to installing. I had some board issues that I was having repaired, and they were fixed. After they were fixed, the person installed the ESB kit, and he let me know he noticed the following:

-Sound hangs intermittently when playing.
-Credits always show 1 Coin no matter what the dip switches are set to.
-The self-test shows a ROM error (stated normal on the internet).
-The board will not exit self-test, just hangs with a black screen.

He is going to try to install it on another known good board set to see if he has the same issues, but has anyone experience these issues before?

Thanks.

Update, per the person who installed the kit:

"The self-test indicates Rom 3 Error at 1KL 3171...The only related issue that I see tied to the bad ROM is the game will not exit out of self-test. When the self-test switch is set back to normal the screen goes blank. The LEDs on the main board indicate the CPU is not running (all off) and a hard reset on the main board does nothing. The only way to get the game going again is to power cycle the game.

I tried the kit on my board-set and the same issues occur with the ROM error and not exiting from self-test (lockup). The games do play and you can switch between SW & ESB but the self-test not exiting is a little bit concerning."

I read on previous threads that a batch of the Vector Labs kits had this issue. I reached out to Vector Labs and am just waiting to hear back. I welcome any ideas on it in the meantime if there are other things you recommend I try.

Thanks.

I want to say that I've seen this before.. ESB kit doesn't reset leaving test mode - like the watchdog isn't resetting..
The ROM error is normal (I consider it a bug personally)..

The little PCB on the sound board often gets hung up on the cage too.. Not sure if there is a socket/connection error maybe..

Check the components on the kit and make sure they are all soldered in and no trace breaks. I had an issue with mine not letting me switch between games and it wa a chip leg on the kit that didnt get soldered from the factory

Update, the kit was installed and worked on another machine.

When I put the boards into my machine, I cannot switch to ESB. I then went into self-text, and my left thumb button does not register.

Any thoughts on how to fix that? Thanks in advance.
