Well, my WG6100 was working on my Quantum for a few hour while I owned the game and it went to half screen like this:

Any ideas what the problem may be? I am thinking of just pulling the monitor and have a full cap kit done to it. Wanted to see if, based on the problem I am experiencing, I should be concerned or possibly looking at something else (IE video out from PCB, etc.)

Thanks in advance!!

Well, that's a good start. Check all the connectors on the deflection board for cold solder, check the 6 frame-mount transistor sockets for broken wires, and maybe replace all 6 of those transistors (with mica insulators).....

Why not just check them, and replace any that are bad? He doesn't need to shotgun all the transistors - they don't age like caps do. In this case, his LV power transistors are fine, as are his horizontal transistors. If he's going to shotgun anything - he should replace the vertical transistor pair.

You've definitely lost positive vertical deflection. That means that at least your LV power supply is working (since you have a full half screen) - so those transistors are OK. Inspect the others for broken wires, loose connections, etc. Reflow all the header pins on the chassis - that's always a good thing to do for these monitors. And yes, if you haven't done a cap kit, do that while you have the chassis out. That is always a good idea.

If one pair has gotten old enough to fail due to age, stress, etc (or even just one transistor), it makes sense to replace all 6 at once ($2 each) with the cap kit and save the good ones for emergencies, than to replace one or two, and hope the others don't fail next month for some reason. Only takes a few minutes more....

yeah i agree, i ordered a lv2000 and a deluxe cap kit for the 6100 in the space duel i had and it worked great, the picture was perfect!

More than likely one of the frame transistors has went. If not it could be one of the transistors on the deflection board with the big heat sink mounted on them. I've seen a few k6100's with the deflection board just needing a re-flowed on these transistors. Of course once you have the deflection board off the frame re-flow all the connectors.

Thanks for all the help.. cap kit and LV kit ordered, I'll keep everyone posted on how it goes from there...

Mmmm

Strange problem, the centre column is there, but no left or right.

Hard to imagine it would be a deflection transistor, unless both failed together. (Not all that likely) :)

(i am thinking something common to left and right deflection, prior to the large transistors)

I will await your outcome once the parts are fitted

Hope it works in any case ;)

OK, full cap kit, LV2009 installed, and upon fire up the screen was fine!... for about 20 seconds, then it went back to the half screen as seen above. I can take more pics if needed, but I am still frustrated with this one. I'm not very technically inclined but I'm learning! :)

Thanks for all your help in advance!!

Also check that the wires to those transistor sockets are on good, and that you put the insulators between the transistors and the frame...

OK, I took the harnesses off and back on from those transistors and it fixed it.. for about 3 minutes. So what do I need to do to fix this, iE clean the contacts or ?

If you can wiggle the connectors on the deflection board and make it work, then you need to pull that deflection board and resolder all of the pins of those connectors...
