I was browsing some stuff on VAPS today and noticed that almost no one had the serial numbers of their games listed why is that exactly just laziness or no one noticed that they added that feature? Everyone is always talking about a game registry with serial numbers but it Seems like most of us already are a part of a very large one and never utilize it.

Most people don't update their vaps profile much. It is a newer feature so some people probably just don't think about going back to do it. I still want to merge my KLOV and VAPS account, also. (hint, hint mods)

But then there is laziness.;)

I didn't know they added that. It isn't like I go read forums on the VAPS site or something. Now I need to go log my serial numbers. :)

SNs

I need to ad some to the games on my keeper list. I dont put SNs on my for sale games because there is a constantly revolving inventory. It seems I almost always have a DK, Robo, Ms. Pac etc for sale so I dont up date when one is sold. I just leave the previous one listed there. I use to up date it every week but I have not taken the time to do so lately. So... Laziness I guess.

I didn't know it was added. I am not sure if serial numbers matter, but I guess it can't hurt to add them. When I am not being lazy that is. :)

Too lazy to go get them off the machines. Perhaps someday...

I had the same issue with having my old VAPS account and a second one from my KLOV account. I just PM'd mclemore and he fixed it right away. I think I had really good timing because it was like 15 minutes after I sent the PM that he merged the accounts.

As far as listing serial numbers in VAPS....for me yes it's partly laziness, but I guess for some games unless I have a really low or interesting serial number, I don't bother to list it. Some games, like my Red Baron cockpit, are missing their serial number. :(

LOL yeah I thought that would be some of the responses.:D I updated mine a few months back and added all my serial numbers in Still have more stuff to put up just haven't had the time to finish. Mostly boards though just a pain in the ass to unwrap them all. So I guess in a way I'm guilty as well but everything that's up is done.

Kind of off subject, can you still supply pics for the IAM regarding games? I use to get an error message, now I'm getting this

"June 18, 2010. The new game entry submission is offline while we continue to process pending submissions and change some aspects of our submission form.

It is estimated this page will return online in about 1 week."

Besides that, maybe I should go collect my serial #'s while my collection is still small, lol.

I didn't know they added that either. I haven't updated mine in a long time, yes, laziness. Should add my new games but now I'll have to go get the numbers first.

Yeah it was serial numbers and High score It just looks weird because they added them right in the middle of the information columns. So now everything is blank through the center.

I have serial numbers listed for all my games that still have them. I know a couple had stickers that are long gone but all my pac stuff is listed along with everything else with serials still intact.

I always keep my vaps up to date, but really, who the heck cares about serial numbers unless you have #6 of something or whatever? I couldn't care less about the serial numbers of my games.

For some games its nice to look and see what is still out there. I have a dedicated professor pac and would like to make a registry for them to see how many are still around. It would be nice to know how many are still around, working, not working, converted, etc.

True would make a handy data base research wise. It would also give a better idea on Value of certain games knowing how many are left.

1) I don't feel like pulling every game away from the wall, or out of storage, just to get the serial number. If I pull it out for some other reason, I'll check for it.

2) Some of my games have no serial numbers that I could find....

Only one that doesn't have the original serial number plate on it in my collection was my Asteroids Deluxe. Why in the world it was necessary to remove the back door and the piece of wood above it is beyond me.

You don't necessarily need serial numbers for that, although I can see it being helpful for a rarer game like that. Honestly I think you'd get more data by requesting it in the forums (e.g. the DK registry) than by hoping people would put it in their vaps. And at least vaps can serve as a way to contact owners to gather the data too.

I think that's cool. I hadn't noticed that feature was available. When I move all the games from the garage to the gameroom I'll have to get the numbers to post.

Sometimes, the upper board gets cracked down the middle. This is especially the case if someone tried to roll it around on a dolly without a backboard. I've had a few cabs with cracked upped boards.

On topic: I posted all the serial numbers that I could find on my boards. I also store my boards in usps boxes, and label each box with serial number, game title, and manufacturer if I can find that information. Sometimes, I can't find a serial on the board. Also, my williams games didn't have serial numbers on the wood parts of the cabs, so I took the serial numbers off the monitor bracket stickers. I figured those were the most likely parts to be original to the cabs.
