VAPS --- How can we make it better? Rebuilding...

I think the most important item for VAPS beyond the data itself, is the photos of each game!

Most (80%+) of the photos submitted for each game are subpar 100x100 or less pixels
in size and are useless for the masses. it's 2020, and we need large high-quality photos!

...and each game should at least have these fulfilled:

[ ] full game - front
[ ] full game - back
[ ] full game - right side
[ ] full game - left side
[ ] full game - inside (backdoor removed)
[ ] marquee
[ ] bezel
[ ] control panel
[ ] pcb
[ ] coin door
[ ] power supply
[ ] other (bootleg pcb, oddball CPO, etc...)

I'll add my votes for:

- a status for past collection so we can remember the games we owned, sold, prices we sold them at and when we sold them (Want/Own/History)

I'd like to add my support for this. It would be really nice to keep track of all the games I've had over the years, both coming and going, with dates. And if possible, I'd even log buying/selling prices too.

That is a lovely idea... I wonder how many people would use it though. A step in that direction would be to allow people to add dates they bought or sold a machine, and/or to somehow encourage people to be better at adding serial numbers to their entries.

I do both of those myself, and I think it would be really interesting to add them to VAPS.

I also like the idea of adding buying/selling prices like smalltownguy said

Re: Cabinet Styles... Yes that is coming... One thought I had was to have a set table of cabinet styles...which someone could add to (but intentionally not easily), and then to set permitted cabinet styles on a per-game basis (which also couldn't be changed by a single person). I'm happy to add slimline as an example, but if it is a valid cabinet type for all games we -will- get a bunch of bogus entries...

I noticed that you can no longer specify which cabinet style is in your collection.
It would be ideal to populate the dropdown list with info from game data on VAPS. Presumably, the cabinet styles are already in one field (Cabinet Styles) of the database.
Once you select the game you have/want, and "original/dedicated", the cabinet style dropdown would populate from the available cabinets that the game came in. (no need to have the cab style activate unless it's original/dedicated)

*Centipede needs "Cocktail (19 inch monitor)" added to Cabinet Styles in the game description.

Like VINWIKI for games. You could add a linked field to the sold date. sold to (KLOV handle) or name.

Hi everyone,

I hope this is the correct thread for my issue. I would like to add my games to the VAPS profile but I cannot add my city to my profile. Seems that the VAPS bio does not accept my german ZIP Code? Would be happy for any help on that.

Cheers, Felix

VAPS Banner will not update anymore, I get the error:
FAILED-1299: SELECT `userid` FROM `user` WHERE `username` = 'Ghostlyguy'

Just posting it here so I don't forget about it.

I'd love to see a count of PCBs owned on my VAPs games page.

I mostly collect PCBs, not full cabs.

I have several hundred entries in my VAPS profile but when you're viewing my VAPs page it says I only own 8 games because it's not counting the PCBs.

Other things I'd like to see
-field for date purchased
-field for "where purchased"
-field for price paid
(maybe this could be optionally hidden from public view for people who don't want to share that info?)

I'd also like to be able to add games to my list that aren't in the KLOV database. I own 20 or 30 PCBs that aren't in the database, I used to submit them for addition but they'd sit for months unapproved so I stopped bothering.

Heck if you gave me the ability to add games that were waiting for approval that'd be good too, it would encourage me and others to make those additions if we could get them on our list without waiting.
