Did a cap kit on a V2000 that was working but only showed half the screen. I reflowed the header pins and also replaced the large filter caps. Now, the game and screen play/look great for about 1-2 minutes and then the screen goes black and plays blind. The spot killer is, at that point, flashing randomly. Usually, if I shut down the game and wait for a few minutes and then turn it back on, the game comes up fine again for another 1-2 minutes.

What should I look at for this? The filter caps were kind of a pain to put in because the legs had to be bent in order for them to fit into the holes from the previous ones. I am wondering if one of these might be shorting.

Any ideas on where to look would be really helpful. Which board might be causing this?

I personally doubt it's a filter cap. Could be a lot of things. You have the Asteroids Deluxe, plug that monitor in and make sure its not your mother board or edge connector.

Thanks Dave. The edge connector is definitely touchy and needs to be replaced. Even though the rest of the game is functioning, the edge connector could make the V2000 go out?

I've checked the voltages on the board test points and they are good. The test feature on the game will sometimes indicate a Ram7 (C2) error from the beeps. Othertimes, the test feature will get all the way through the sequence without any errors. Could all of these be a result from the edge connector? Thanks again.

Torin,
I've got a Battlezone here, so if you need to bring your monitor or boards over and test them in mine, you're welcome to.

Dan,

Thanks, that might be the best option at this point. Maybe I can start with testing the boards. I'm thinking my edge connector is the issue now but want to rule anything else out too. I have your number and will give you a call after work. Appreciate it.

That sounds like a plan. Talk to you later.
