So here is the current state of the HV diode on my v2000:

A couple of questions about replacing this thing:

It looks like I'm missing one of the rubber sockets the diode goes into. What's the best thing to do about that?

Also, where exactly does the dielectric grease come into play? What do I need to grease?

Thanks...

Strip back a little of the wire coming out of the transformer.
Take the other end apart. It may need a hair dryer to warm it up and ease disassembly.
Pull off that nasty rubber boot and discard.
Clip off the spring that's under the boot and strip that wire as well.
Get a new HV diode, it will come with long leads on both ends.
clip the leads down to 1/2" or so.
Solder the new diode's leads to the stripped wires.
Coat and exposed metal at the joint with silicone adhesive/sealant.

IMHO, dieletric grease isn't needed here. Leave it in the garage for use on your spark plug boots.

Sorry for bumping an old topic...

Q: Does Bob sell these diodes? If so, does anyone have a direct link? If not, does anyone have a direct link to a source that does?

Q: Does the G05 and V2000 use the same diode? I have one of each that is blooming.

THANKS!

Bob sells them but he's always out. There's a guy on fee bay that always lists 'em.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VARO-1802-1...=130687160938&ps=63&clkid=8072351661624103305

and even though it lists two different diodes on Bob's site, I've used the same diode in both units before and never had any problems.

Arcadeshop has them. Arcadechips has them also, I believe.

Although I didn't get mine there, I've had a good experience with both these sellers in the past.

I just replaced my HV diode when fixing my Asteroids Deluxe... Needed to clip off the boots as they were in sad shape. Looks like you will need to do it also...

(some info is on my site)

Awesome... thanks!

I am picking 3 of these bad boys up... for the 3 B&W vector monitors I have... All three seem to have a bit of a bloom...

:)

Be sure to get the diode orientation correct (the side that has the stripe). I had to go through the same repair on my V2000's this weekend (one in Omega Race, the other a non-worker in my garage). Be also sure not to mess with the pots that control 12,000V of current running through the diode/anode wire. You would need an HV probe and balls of steel to set it again.

1) There has to be a supplier of HV diodes that make thicker leads that don't break off flush to the body of the diode from a simple bend.

2) When is someone (Chad?) going to design a replacement flyback with an internal diode so these are no longer necessary to replace?

Just a warning...

I purchased from this dude Sunday. I've asked for a status update since it still says on ebay that I need to pay even though i paid (verified via paypal) since Monday evening and thus far I've gotten nothing... I will update this thread when I hear from the guy.

I have a HV probe ... and my balls are legendary. :)

But I will take heed to eliminate the hassle.

The stripe is to go toward the anode or the flyback?

Thanks!

EDIT: BTW - This is for an Omega Race as well. But I have bloom in my Asteroids Deluxe too... my guess... the same problem. That is why I bought two.

UPDATE: 24 hours later and still no update. Still no part. Still nothing. I've left an ultimatum. If I hear NOTHING for another 24 hours I am filing a paypal dispute, ebay dispute and I will be purchasing elsewhere. This guy is a flake.

BTW - I am looking on ARCADESHOP and ARCADECHIPS webesites and not finding the proper part numbers? Does anyone have a direct link to the proper part at any reputable vendor?

Thanks!

Sorry to hear your having a bad experience. I purchased two last year and had no problems. This guy has been selling and relisting these diodes for a while now and has plenty of positive feedback from people who've purchased them. I don't understand why he would flake all of the sudden. Sorry, thought it was a sound referral.

Dude replied... he'd sent out the diodes... I got them today.

BAD communication but he did send what he was supposed to when he was supposed to.

Anyone know if I can use regular ole GE Silicone II (Kitchen/Bath/Plumbing) stuff to insulate the soldered leads? I see someone used RTV Silicone but frankly, i don't know the difference... or if there is a difference.
