USP-11-150X / Peter Chou XT Power Supply Replacement

Peter Chou power supplies are officially distributed in the USA by Betson Enterprises (www.betson.com) and can be ordered from any of their offices across the USA.

Many coin-op game distributors also resell Peter Chou power supplies at their parts counters. Check your telephone directory in the nearest metropolitan city under "Amusement Devices" for a game distributor near you.

Happ Controls has their own brand that will directly replace the Peter Chou model you have.

If yours has the power switch already built into the side of the power supply, this is the one you want:

If yours has a cable with a 4 pin connector for use with an external (cabinet mounted) power switch, this is what you want:

Thanks for the info Ken.

The one I have has the 4pin connector but then has a terminator on it. Is it even used/required and will the first one you suggested do?

From your link:

> Requires minimum 1.5 amp load on +5 for proper operation

Really??? Some video games draw a bit less than 1.5 amps or about that -- what am I not understanding?

Power Supplies are not necessarily universal and games that draw less then the required current shouldn't be used.

they are no different than a pc ATX power supply internally, so you mean the supply I have had in my pc (500 watt) not drawing max amps is dangerous?

No one said anything about max Amps. The minimum Amps required on that particular power supply is 1.5 Amps. The max is 15 Amps. I wouldn't go so far as to call it dangerous, but it is not recommended.

Power Supplies and Loading

The problem with running a power supply at less than minimum loading is this: the energy will have be to disapated somewhere. Whether it is in the rectifier on the main board or a diode, the energy will leave the circuit as heat.

That will fry components, so keeping a unit within it's load profile range (1.5 amps minimum to 15 amps maximum) is important.

Overloading a power supply causes the voltage to drop - today's chips are made to far more precise standards than those of old - if you overload a power supply (draw too much watts / amps), you'll dip the voltage and let the smoke out.

Once you let the smoke out, it's very hard to get it to go back in!
