Excuse my ignorance on the subject, but I'm thinking about moving away from running my Pins on Free Play, and instead getting some old tokens and having myself (and family/friends) use those to play the games.

I know where I can get some tokens, but is there any special set up I need to do to accomplish this on the games? I'm wanting to do this on a Sys. 11 and a couple of old early 80's Williams and Gottlieb machines. Is there a simple setting to set for tokens on those games?

I believe you would just have to switch out the mechs for the appropriate size tokens that you want to use. I would like to do the same eventually as there is something about putting that coin in...I cant put my finger on it but having my games on freeplay just insnt the same it loses part of its mystique if you can just wlak up to it and push a button.

IF (and this is a big if) all the original wiring and switches are in place in the coin door, it's just a matter of getting some token mechs and a coin box.

The problems come up when you have a machine that had the coin door stripped of parts, or hack up for some other reason. I'm not a fan of leaf switch coin doors.

Depending on the game, you may also have to enlarge the coin slots a bit to fit the tokens, or get some SBA inserts.

Well, on both of my current machines I can put a quarter in and it works. It almost makes me want to just put a bunch of quarters in something by the games. Probably would be easier than getting token mechs.

i might look into doing something like that if i was running my pins all day....as it stands, they're only on if i'm about to play a game or two (and then only the machine i'm walking up to).

i totally get the idea of wanting to get that arcade "feel" when you put the tokens in to play, but for me it would just be an extra step. if i wanna play, i go turn on a pin and push a button. i'm cool with that.

i agree with both of you, it does not seem the same without hearing the coin splash into a pile of coins inside the machine, but at the same time my machines arent on if im not about to play them either, so im fine without it, could set them to free play but tell your friends and guests they must put money in to play :) haha

I know what you guys mean... it's cool enough being able to flip a game on and just go.

My grandfather, when I was a kid, had a gumball machine that took dimes. He had a basket full of dimes next to it, and everytime I would go over there I grabbed a dime and therefore a gumball. I just think it would be even better to make my games truly coin operated again if possible.
