HAs anyone used steel weld(those rods you heat with a propane torch) to repair a cpo? My dynamo CPO is separating in two places.

My HS-1 CP is split on one corner as well. I wouldn't trust myself with welding it though. Haha. I wonder how much it would cost to take it somewhere that would.

EDIT: Found this local place on Yelp that has good reviews. They do minimum charge $35 depending on the job. I may check this out. Maybe you have a place nearby as well?

I'll check. It's most likely the same thing though...$35 for welding and it's literally 30 seconds of spot welding. This stuff you heat like solder.

I think you are talking about brazing? Yea, it's basically soldering on steroids. I haven't done any myself, but it's a fine technique, especially for thinner materials (sheet metal, etc). You can buy brazing rod with flux on it on Amazon for pretty cheap, your local home store is probably just as good a price.

It's NOT as heavy-duty as welding! But it's not going to fall apart. From what I've read, the important thing is to make sure you get decently clean surfaces, and get everything sufficiently hot, and you're off to the races.

My experience with brazing on thin surfaces is that it cracks over a period of time if under any stress.
IMO I believe you are better off welding and grinding smooth.

I am going to go and get one of the holes filled on a Congorilla CP to match a CPO that I got custom made. i am going to take it to a weld shop and have it professionally done. I will post what it costs and the final outcome. If done properly you will never know there was a hole there at all.
