have a billabs 27 hooked up vga to a computer for mame, also want to use the same cabinet for jamma. in addition to the vga input on the monitor it has another input for standard res. is there any harm with hooking both up at the same time? i'm wondering what will happen if a signal is going through both, could it hurt the monitor? or will it just choose one (probably vga) ?

I also plan to wire controls to both an ipac and jamma harness at the same time, is there any potential problems with this or can I just split the wires and run one to the ipac, one to the jamma harness and it will work correctly?

my last problem is sound, I need to have a switch post amplification, what is a good way to do this?

should be a nice cab when I'm done. plan on tossing a 6 way jamma switcher in there, slot one with a 1 slot neo with a multicart, slot 2 with a 4 slot neo, slot 3 probably a horizontal multi. slot 4 Rastan, slot 5 and 6 whatever else

or would it be better to wire up the jamma to vga and use a vga switcher? is there any difference in running jamma into vga versus the standard connector on the monitor?

The monitor has to be told what input to use so as far as you sending two signals at the same time - it won't matter anyway

Your sound issue - no clue.

If you're using MAME why would you possibly want to use actual PCB's? Everything you listed for REAL hardware is emulated decently in MAMe already.
