Using Dragon's Lair Cab for DAPHNE/MAME..Have question about CP??

Ok,

So you guys have been great with suggestions/help as I finish my DAPHNE/MAME cab.

Here is my (hopefully) FINAL question:

What do you guys suggest for a control panel?? I have an original DL CP, but I will be running MAME in the same DL cab as DAPHNE. I wanted to be able to have a two player control panel for some of the head to head games (Like Karate Champ)....I can't build my own control panel (because, frankly, I SUCK at that kind of thing). SO, any suggestions on where I can buy a CP that would "fit" my cab?? Or one I could retro-fit without having to chop the CP all up??

Any ideas would help! Thanks eveyone! I will be posting pics soon. I have everything installed in the cab except the control panel (obviously). Got my I-pac today so I am close to finishing!

Take it easy

Jess

Personally, I would avoid cutting up or modifying the CP.

Find another cab for your regular MAME stuff.. DL cab is great for Daphne. You could even get the score boards working...

Unfortunately...

Yea..Unfortunately...I don't have the space for two seperate cabs...I used to have a ton of space..not anymore...

I might just stick with games that only require one joystick (like pacman and such) and load those on the MAME end..that way I can still use the DL CP...I did already add one hole for an extra button for a couple laser games (like Cliffhanger)...but it can be easily patched if I ever sell the CP for some strange reason :)

Any other suggestions out there?

Thanks!

What kind of CPO are you going to use? It will look kinda funny with 2 Joysticks and 12 + buttons. It's a DL cabinet right. I think it might end up to tight with a 2 player setup. Thats my opinion maybe someone will chime in with a idea. I will keep thinking, a DL2 Cab would work out for a 2 player setup but that would change your whole project probably.

Hey..

Tob,

Did you get my PM?? I sent one telling you I figured out everything myself and thanked you for all your help...I never heard back so wasn't sure if you got it??

Anyway...yea, I wish I had a DL 2 cab (again) now...LOL...have had a few of them over the years

Like I mentioned, I think I will just stick with putting some of the old classic 80's games on the MAME...that way I can have two players rotate turns and don't have to hack up the CP or find another one I can retrofit...just seems easier that way...

I will PM you again...hope all is well...!!

I would concur.

Probably not something you want to hear, but what you're trying to do with Daphne is pretty slick. I wouldn't detract from it by trying to go with the direction of those monster all in one messes.

I know you're limited on space but I would keep Daphne - Daphne. Try to grab a countertop or cocktail mame. Or a small sega/gremlin upright for mame.

I tried to keep my two mame machines simple, streamlined and visually compatible with the rest of my dedicated games. I used Hyperspin and setup two cabinets; one for horizontal games and one for vertical. Simple control panels with least amount of buttons as possible.

Yea..

Mike,

Yea..I have an original Ms. Pac cocktail "project" table sitting in the garage...I will probably just turn that into a MAME cab sometime this summer....

Decisions...decisions...

But I agree on keeping DAPHNE just a DAPHNE machine...that has been the original plan all along until I realized how limited on space I will be...I should be able to fit an upright (DAPHNE cab) and a cocktail (MAME) in the same room though...going to have to go take some measurements now...JEEZ guys...making me do extra work today!!! LOL...

Thanks everyone!
