Has anyone ever had any success using a set of convergence rings on tube they weren't originally intended for? I have a post in the wanted section looking for convergence rings for my u5000...1000028361.jpg
...but I was wondering out of curiosity, I have a set of convergence rings for a 4600 that fit the neck and was wondering if it would be worth attempting to use them, or should I just track down an original set?

they have different spacings between the rings. I learned this the hard way years ago that the ring assembly should remain original to the tube.
I figured that was the case, this U5000
was missing its rings when I got it, I'll have to find some somewhere.

You'll be starting fresh with purity and convergence as it is so you just need a ring set that fits the tube really.
That and a stack of adjustment strips too I imagine.

Its possible and ive done it, the ring sets i used were a bit loose and this was a giant problem trying to adjust them, so i added little pieces of blue painters tape to the side of the ring set until it was snug that i could move the rings and it would stay in place until correct then glued it down. I didnt even have marks for a starting point on how far the rings assembly should be on a tube but a fellow klover helped me out with a diagram from an atari manual that was spot on.

This is a tv tube, ide know where the ring sets came from either another tv tube or a k7000 or k7400 u2000 u5000 i dont remember. It took me about 3 attempts and hours but its possible and the more you do it the easier it gets especially if you understand exactly what the rings do. Their is another post on klov about converging that was super helpful to me. Its a bitch to be honest I had to use that Atari manual as a starting point and try the convergence and see then scoot it closer or farther to the yoke until i got what you see. Now if i turned the color pots and contrast way down you would clearly see the separation that it is not perfectly converged, its impossible to perfectly converge a monitor even from the factory no monitor was "perfectly" converged. So do your best then try a game board. As you can see you cannot tell the difference it looks perfect running a game board or even my hatch pattern turbing the contrast up to where you would run it normally anyway. If you think you got it pretty damn good try a game board and see.

Thanks, I'll try this!
