Using CGA to VGA converter on Monaco GP Screen Issues...

Hey guys!

I'm using the CGA to VGA jammaboards.com video converter to put a replacement VGA monitor in my Monaco GP mini cabinet.

The Monaco GP did not have the standard 5-pin molex to connect to the conversion board, so I wired in the P11 slot molex connector. The problem with this is that it has 2 separate wires for H Vid Sync and V Vid Sync, but there's only 1 sync wire coming from the Monaco board...

I spliced them all together, and my picture is bad. I'm wondering if I need to invest in the standard RGB GRN SYNC 5-pin JAMMA connector to splice into, or if wiring the H and V sync together with the single Sync wire from the board is okay (meaning the scrambled video is an issue with the PCB board).

I've attached some pics to show what it's doing. For the most part, the sync is constantly moving in and out of being able to see the screen. A picture captures a single moment, but were it a video of the gameplay, you'd see it cut in and out of scrambled, rolling mess.

Any thoughts?

Did you try what it says in the manual? http://www.jammaboards.com/arcade_manuals/GBS-8220_CGA_to_VGA_HD-Converter.pdf I wouldn't just splice them together... I'd first just try the composite sync on just the H sync wire, and if that doesn't work, pull the gray pin and move it over a pin like the manual says (maybe that's the composite input). I connected to mine through the 5 pin connector and haven't had any problems, so that's definitely an option too.

man... i totally missed where it suggested that pin swap in the manual.

I'll give the H-only splice a try, and then the pin swap if that doesn't work. All else fails, I'll order a JAMMA loom for the 5 pin molex.

Thanks man!

Okay, I tried just the H sync, and then tried shifting the grey wire over one, but with the same results. Video is still identically weird on both setting.

I'll try and get ahold of that 5 pin monitor connector to try the actual CGA input. I'm willing to bet though, something is amiss with the board.

The graphics spent a bit more time being perfectly clear, and I saw that the car I control starts on the background graphics to the right of the road... not actually on the road itself, but to the right of it in the grass. That's not normal, right?
