Hi,
I'm certainly no bondo expert... in fact I'm extremely new to it. However I thought of an interesting way to make a bondo mold, and I took pictures in case anyone else finds this technique useful.
We cut strips of 10mm acetate (from an art supply store) that were the thickness of the wood we were trying to repair (in this case a 5/8" R-Type cabinet) and pinned it to the contour of the cabinet between some wood scraps. We filled it to the top wit bondo and leveled it off. After the bondo dried we sanded it while still in the mold, then removed the scrap wood that was pinning the acetate, and then peeled the acetate off.
It needs a little more sanding but the basic shape came out perfect.
