Occasionally users feel a need or strong desire to change their usernames.

Some have asked us to do it for them and we generally will make the change for them (though it often takes a while).

A decent number of other users have simply stopped using an old account and created a new one. It is recommended NOT to do this whenever possible, especially as your forum profile gets further tied to other non-forum functionality (like VAPS, etc. etc.).

I'm inclined to publish all before/after name changes, regardless of whether we make the username change or if a user creates a new account. Standard practice for this is still pending.

The bottom line is that we want to officially state that we will in general process non-controversial username requests, especially when a user is willing to be patient.

It takes some effort to change a username, so if you don't have a reason to change it, please don't ask.

If you do wish a username changed, do two things (1). Post in this thread saying you would like a username change (and include the new username unless you want to keep it private until the change is made), and (2) Send me a private message repeating the request and this time including what you would like your new username to be. You won't receive a response to the private message or other contact until I'm ready to make the change.

It is my plan to let process these change requests once every 2 to 4 months. So unless it is an emergency for some reason, please be patient.

I happen to be working on these this morning, so it's a good time to ask.

If you asked previously, ask again in this thread.

*** UPDATE. I'M NOT HANDLING USERNAME CHANGES, THE MODERATORS ARE. THUS I'M NOT THE BEST PERSON TO PM A REQUEST TO...

done.

All above requests have been completed. Look at their profile to see their previous username if curious.

PM on its way.

is it really that hard to set up a place in the user cp where you can change your user name every 15 days like on yugioh forums?

Why would you need to change your user name every 15 days?

I like knowing who I am dealing with and not trying to figure out who is who with constant username changes.

No, it is not that simple. Your login works across several different sites, and changing it requires someone to tinker with the database. As the site admin said, per user it probably takes around 10 minutes to do each change, although a little less time is required if multiple accounts are being done at once.

This software doesn't support that, nor would we want it to. I can imagine all sorts of problems with people being able to change their username to something close to someone else's, play a joke or worse, then change it back.

For a variety of reasons largely dealing with the safety of the community here, we have slowly headed away from anonymous posting.

Fortunately, some changes this week make it a little easier for the admins to change a username upon request, and as long as we don't get too many we can continue to do them.

All change requests in this thread have been completed.

Sending PM for a name change. Thanks

[mclemore: change made]

What the Hell? I asked for a name change like a year ago. And I'm still waiting on it.

[mclemore: then ask for it again. I announced I wasn't hunting through history for changes that people may or may not still want...]

Huh? I assumed nothing. I asked it as a question. But your post pretty clearly implies you didn't read the original post. Otherwise it's a pretty strange post to make in the context of this thread.

+1 Read the original post. Instructions are in bold type.

Greg clearly states that you need to post in this thread and PM him again as he doesn't want to fish for old PMs/posts from 1+ years ago.

Also, he was doing username changes mainly around the weekend he posted this thread when he had the free time. So it's no guarantee that he'll get to requests made after that anytime soon.
