- User Level99 or "Travis Reynolds" selling RAM Controls parts

Negative
"Travis Reynolds" wasn't some 3rd party trying to liquidate their stock, that was the uber-scammer himself.

If that's the case, then I understand.

Also, I was trying to give Mylstar the benefit of the doubt. As my comment suggested, and as he stated, purchases were made long ago.

Oh wow, bummer. I bought my Paperboy controls off of him right before the Paperboy bubble on the cheap. They were legit parts and not repro. I even have his phone number and we stayed in touch for a while via text. Bummer that he turned out to be Satan himself. Seemed like a good guy.

and nothing important or life changing nor not already available to the us gov is on my fb.

...or so you think. The problem with social media postings are not so much single data points, but more the collection of postings. "Pattern of Life" profiles....but you're right, it's not anything FB, google, Amazon, Uber, etc. don't already have. The US government (CIA, NSA, FBI) is an easy villain to blame, but is really just who those with the MOST to gain from your information (hint: the US government can't PROFIT from user information) want you to believe is the threat.

Were they used parts? The new/NOS stuff he has is repro.

Yes they were used and not new/NOS.

Hey may have swapped the stolen/RAM parts for those. Nothing to do with you, just stating/curious about where his stuff comes from/how he deals. He's active on a bunch of FB groups, many are clueless that he's not really 'Travis', many more are in denial, and some more don't care and figure they'll gamble.

I know of a collector who sent a LL controller to him to copy years ago during the RAM Controls thing. Never got it back. Never occurred to me, but Adam may have had multiple people send original controllers, harnesses, etc to him as the sample to copy, promising them all discounts or freebies. Get some repros made, then sell the borrowed parts to other collectors.

Forgive me if this has been answered but it's a long thread to read... Does this person have an eBay presence? I want to be sure to avoid any dealings.

I guess I don't understand this guy?

The amount of time and effort he puts in to scamming people for arcade parts he could just get a regular job and be way ahead.

When I had my bar, many of the locals were in a way like him, just not as sophisticated. I would ask them the same question and their response would be "Workers never scam, and scammers never work." There are people out there that are happy to get by on scamming people because they can make enough to get by and not have to work as much as everyone else.

I guess my confusion there is just... he does still have to work, a lot, for it? He's managed to get all the materials and equipment he needs to be the only one capable of making tons of super rare and desirable proprietary parts, and he always makes a bunch of them as it is. Seems like he's already put the work in and just can't resist a layer of scam on top of it. I feel like if he'd just be legit and make/sell parts nobody else can possibly make, he'd make more than he does by making a few and then running another vanishing salesman scam. I don't understand how it isn't less work to just make use of the priceless work setup he has and sell them legit rather than to keep making aliases and fake names and addresses and always coming up with a new product to produce a few of before fooling people by lying about making more and skipping town. It's bizarre.

The parallels between this and the Billy Mitchell situation are interesting.

In both cases, the people have legit talent. The public genuinely admires them. And if they could just straighten up and fly right they would both be ok. But they are their own worst enemies.

Such is history.
