Used, but still in the box, Intellivision. Sweet.

Merry Christmas to me, from a friend who know I like old games. He saw it in his parents basement and thought of me. I was floored when he brought it in to work today.

Looks like games were being sold for $26.74 each back on 12/30/1980.

I'll hook it up soon and see if it works. It will look good next to my Atari and NES consoles.

.

That's awesome.

I always hear of stories of people getting hooked up because someone knows they collect... I have yet to experience this.

I did have a friend who worked at Goodwill come to my work and inform me of an Intellivision (boxed) that went out for $5

That's awesome! My mom saw a kind of beat up one at a yard sale for $5 many years ago and picked it up for me. It had a few games, too. It took some doing, but I got it to work.

OP: Nice score!

What was the problem, and what was involved in getting it going again? I have one to repair, and last time I checked it, all it does is give a black screen. I have an idea it's the AY-3-8910 and I have a spare to solder in.

I don't recall the specifics now, but I seem to remember it just giving a fuzzy screen. I believe I just cleaned everything real well and bought some new adapters from RadioHack and it fired up after that.

That is a cool lot to get for free. Didn't know that Intellivision had licensed NFL & MLB games back then. Almost 31 years ago on the day, he gives it away, cool work buddy.

isn't that a sound amp chip? i don't know much about intellivisions, just ataris, but i would try cleaning the cart connector, and then start pulling it apart and checking for voltages. also, make sure you have it on the right channel, that little switch on the bottom of the console.

Yes, that's the GI sound generator chip. Yeah tried cleaning the cart port, no joy. Was definitely tuned to the correct channel, I have an INTV III that works fine. I will have to pull it out again and re-clean it and check voltages, but before it went out, the console started losing audio. It would be OK for a while until the console warmed up, then some sound effects and the white noise would go out. This same symptom has happened to one other Inty logic board I've had.

Actually I got the part number wrong - the sound chip is a AY-3-8914, which is the same chip, but isn't pin compatible with the AY-3-8910.
