Has anyone used a paper cutter to trim a control panel overlay?

If so, does it work well or do I risk it pulling/ripping/mangling the overlay and/or backing material?

on a metal CP? I center it where I want it and put it down full size, then take a box knife (or just the blade from it) and carefully trim with downstrokes against the metal edge of the cp. the edge of the metal should keep it smooth, and as long as you dont pull the blade upward while your cutting it wont lift the overlay.
Thats how I do it, Id also be interested in hearing how others do it

I used a rotary one (not the guillotine type) to cut one. It worked well, but I was able to work the blade back and forth several times to cut it slowly so it didn't tear. Most of the time when I need to trim one, I apply it and use a new Xacto blade to cut along the edge.

OK. I will use the metal edge of the panel for trimming (This is for a Star Wars cockpit overlay, by-the-way).

Thanks for the feedback.
