2 Months ago my Satans hollow was Damaged by UPS Freight. they hit the top corner with a fork lift damaging the wood and destroying the glass, They damaged one coner of the underlay bad!! That will be hard to replace, any other damage was hidden under the broken glass. It went back to there local Warehouse. and the Claims process began. 2 months later they called me and said all the insurance would cover is .10 cents per pound. They told me they if I did not accept delivery and pay there delivery charge, they were going to ship my property off to auction. The old hag that called me was a rude bitch!!!

She started reading policy's out of her handbook, she said since I purchased the item from a online auction, Ebay. that there policy is to cover the price paid for the item or .10 cents a pound. whatever is less!!! She offered me $30

After 4 phone calls yesterday and a call to the attorney. I got UPS to drop the delivery charge. The seller was going to get ahold of UPS today. He ships alot with them, have not heard back from him yet.

So the truck came a few hours ago. Spend an hour cleaning up glass. Ok cleaned up, Time to see if it works, Turned it on nothing from the monitor. played blind. Checked all connections again. Got the Monitor to come on but but its bouncing. next time I turned it on Nothing again. Now its bouncing again???

Hope they send the $30 check soon so I can fix my machine:mad:

Im done with UPS, I will never ship anything with them again. just wanted to warn everyone:eek:

I think I mentioned it before when you posted these pics, but whoever packed it like that was asking for it to be damaged. The pallet needs to be bigger than the cab, and the edges need to be padded. Might not stop someone from smacking it with a forklift, but a bigger pallet keeps the forklift farther away, and padding can help absorb the blow.

If the shipper insured it, then it should be covered. If not, then you may be SOL...

As an experienced shipping loader, I can say from the pics that no amount of padding would have helped, or pallet size. Either someone was driving with forks not lowered or they were stacking on it and didn't angle properly when unstacking.

If those are photos of how it actually shipped, yeah you're SOL for sure. Technically, that probably wasn't packed to UPS shipping specifications but freight is a bit different than ground and that looks bigger than 108" inches total limit of ground. There's nothing to protect the exposed edges and corners, not to mention glass. Probably should've been crated.:001_ssad:

that packing is bad. should wrap in shrinkwrap first, then in full cardboard, then shrinkwrap again. for games with glass tops, a pillow or couch cushion should be added to the top. "fragile" glass stickers should be place on top and "do not stack or shelf pallet" should be on the game and on the BOL. also, "no forklift" stickers on eahc side of the game packing (hand pallet jack only).

pallet should be larger than the game all the way around and 2 heavy duty wratchet straps should be used.
not cheap metal bands!!!

I had a Moppet shipped ground and had to go pick it up. it arrived fine. Shipping was like 60 bucks from Vegas.

I used UPS once and was very lucky. Sorry to see this happen. This is exactly why I but locally and refuse to ship anymore. NAVL is just as bad to deal with.

I would call UPS and give them the tracking number and ask if the package was insured and if so for how much. Something smells fishy there. I bet the seller either forgot to insure it or took the basic $100 insurance. I always over insure everything. $200 item gets insured for $500. That extra $4 dollars is well worth my piece of mind.

Also - I've NEVER has UPS give me some bullshit line about .30 a lb. They normally have someone come out - snap pictures, write a report and walk off eventually sending you a check. The shipper should be handling this issue not you is another fault I see here.
I've learned that there's too many idiots in this world and chances are you will have to go through at least 5 people to get to the one person that knows anything. You deal with script monkeys. There are ALWAYS exceptions to the rules. It's about finding the person that can make that happen for you. Common sense should prevail - this means you keep calling back until you get the one person that knows anything.

Agreed.

Sorry this happened to you but freight shippers do not look at this as a collectible game, they look at it as freight. The faster freight moves, the more money they make. Plan for the worst case scenario and over pack the shipment. Stretch plastic and a layer of bubble wrap is not enough.

This was inadequately packed. And I know from talking to a forklift operator that if they see something like that, the see an open invitation to see how badly they can damage it. It's fun - a game for them.

It's not nearly as fun to mistreat a completely crated or boxed item because you can't see the damage you're doing.

I didn't have to ask WHY. This is Louisiana where humidity is routinely over 90%, and the temperature hovers in the 90's and higher all year around except for about 6 weeks when it drops into the 40's or so. They hate their job and aside from a great bowel movement this is the only fun they get.

Sorry for the visual - and this does NOT make it OK for UPS to screw you, it does explain the extent of the damage.

Well Im not sure on the packing. I ran a forklift for many years. the chunk of wood that was taken out by that fork inpact tells me it was hit hard, and would have still broken it in my mind. The driver made some comments about they way it was packaged, but with the force of this impact?? I dont ship machines, this was the first ever that I had shipped so I really dont know. The packing could have been better, but I still think it would have been damaged.

When I purchased this off Ebay, I did not know the seller was a Klover. He is a great guy, and when I talked to him the other day he was upset about the 10 cents a pound crap too!!! I do know the arcade was insured, per our conversation on the phone right after it happened. He ships many games every year thru UPS freight, and this is the first they have damaged. He told me he was going contact UPS and see what he can do.

My issue is with UPS Freight. How can you have a policy, with a insured item. Since it was purchased on Ebay is only worth 10 cents a pound??? WTF???? She was digging in her books to find a reason not to cover it. First she told me because a Antique that it was only worth 10 cents a pound. I then told her it was a few years shy of 30 years old, then she pulled the online auction card???:mad:

I looked at the Machine last night. Monitor has serious issues, plack plexi cover monitor was all scratched up from the glass, underlay is screwed up. and the speakers were having issues too. Its a mess:mad::mad:

I'll explain a bit more about freight as I have been in the business for over 10 years. I have run a warehouse and a delivery crew and I do know what I am doing.

.10 per pound is based on the freight class it shipped under. somewhere on the bill of lading is a class. also, some companies negotiate reduced rates (ie: $/pound/mile) but also give up on the insurance coverage. yes it's covered, but as you learned, at a reduced rate.

here's an example that happened here. names will be removed to protect the guilty.
trucker X says he will deliver a 515 pound skid from NJ to TX for $80 under a national contract rate. trucker Y says I need $225 and trucker Z says $240. we deal with Y and Z on a regular basis, and rarely give freight to X. customer looking at bottom line says use X. Trucker X gets the 515 pound skid worth $2400 and damages it beyond repair on the way to TX. customer is pissed cause we now need to send another and they needed it yesterday yada, yada. we file claim ans are told the national contract only insures for $1 per pound, yes the $2400 case in now only worth $515. trucker Y and Z cover our freight at $25 per pound, and have such a low rate of damage that they just pay if and when the dent something. the seller in this case may not have know what kind of rates he was sold.

no way would I have sent that game out dressed like that. not in a million years. earlier comments about dock workers looking at it as a challenge to see how bad they can jack it up are true. sorry for the long read, but it's an area I have been in the better part of my life.

This whole Deal has been unreal!!! Got a letter today from UPS Freight telling me about there $30 dollar settlement.

It says we are attaching our check in settlement of the claim. Guess what, the stupid fuckers forgot to put in the check. fucking unreal!!!!

Dude, do you have a lawyer or know one? I'd call and get some legal advice... thats just wrong @ 0.10 a pound, they might as well not even bother delivering it, get paid $150 to pick it up and drop it off of a highrise building and make bets on how far the scatterfield is... then shell out the $30 for insurance and pocket the $120! F(*^ it saves on alot of fuel costs too, you could run a business by just destroying things for fun, thats bullshit!

Sorry about the game , that really sucks !

Thanks for the warning , I'm NEVER gonna ship a game .

I thought UPS had free insurance on all items for up to $100 ?

I do not know who you got the game from, but I would be
more upset with them than UPS for doing such a crappy
job of getting that game ready to go for shipment.

1.) Pallet is too small
2.) Not enough protection around edge of glass

I can't even believe that UPS allowed that thing to be loaded
on the truck like that.

To do the job right, I would have put the game on a larger
pallet and went down to the lumberyard and bought some
OSB board and built a crate around the game., 20.00 or
30.00 in materials is cheap insurance. Tempered glass
doesn't take too much of a beating when the edges are
exposed like that.

be happy you get $30. Seller, If your going to ship something and you take the time to find 1 pallet, find 2 more and use them to build a crate. Then make a false top so they won't put anything on top of it.

Sad to hear it got destroyed. not likely you will find replacement parts.

I would say its the sellers fault, but as a buyer, you should make sure your game is properly packed. If your going to spend $200+ to ship a game throw another $40 at the seller so he can buy some 2x4's and build a frame and use some ratchet straps to secure it to the pallet.
